Corsa dei Quartieri - City of Cisterna

A celebration of local identity

The Corsa dei Quartieri - City of Cisterna is much more than a simple running competition: it is an event that transforms the heart of Cisterna di Latina, in the Pontine province of Lazio, into a grand collective embrace every autumn. Launched in 2022 by the Municipality of Cisterna di Latina with the patronage of the Province of Latina, the event has grown year after year to become a true celebration of local pride, where sport becomes an opportunity for meeting and neighborhood spirit.

How the relay works

The format is that of a non-competitive relay race. Each neighborhood fields a team of six athletes who take turns along a circuit set up in the historic center: starting from Corso della Repubblica, running along Via Quattro Giornate di Napoli, and returning. Each athlete covers two 500-meter laps, for a total of 1,000 meters each, while the baton pass takes place under inflatable arches set up for the occasion. The streets are closed to traffic and fill with spectators, turning the race into a city-wide spectacle.

The competing neighborhoods

The challenge features committees and representatives from Cisterna's neighborhoods, including Le Castella, Franceschetti, Cisterna Vecchia, Guglielmo Marconi, Prato Cesarino, and the Mondo Disabili Future team, a symbol of the event's inclusive nature. The team with the best overall time is awarded the Corsa dei Quartieri Trophy, which is kept for a year and symbolically returned at the following edition. Neighborhood committees, social and cultural associations, and even individual citizens—who are placed into mixed teams—are eligible to participate.

Sport, sociality, and community

The value of the event lies above all in its spirit. As the organizers describe it, the Corsa dei Quartieri is "a true celebration of city identity," an afternoon filled with smiles, adrenaline, and sharing, where competition gives way to a sense of community. The focus on inclusion, with the participation of local organizations dedicated to disability, makes it an event open to everyone, free of charge, and insured by the Municipality.

Now a permanent fixture in the autumn calendar of Cisterna di Latina, the Corsa dei Quartieri attracts dozens of athletes and a large crowd to the city center every year. It is an opportunity to rediscover the city on foot, support your neighborhood, and enjoy a day dedicated to grassroots sport and social connection.
