Two days of free sports demonstrations and trials between Parco La Pineta and the beach
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Terracina Sports Festival is the event that, in mid-September, marks the start of the new sports season on the Pontine coast. For an entire weekend, Parco La Pineta and the adjacent beach are filled with demonstration fields, tatami mats, basketball hoops, and beach volleyball nets: a true open-access sports village where anyone can watch the performances or, better yet, try out a new discipline for free.
The event is conceived and organized by Opes Latina, the provincial committee of the sports promotion body Opes, with the contribution of the Municipality of Terracina and the Lazio Region. The format, already successfully tested in the provincial capital, arrived in Terracina in September 2023 with its first edition and has grown year by year: the second edition in 2024, created together with Latina Innovazione, involved over twenty local and regional sports associations, while the third edition on September 13-14, 2025, confirmed the formula with an even richer program.
The heart of the festival is the free trials open to everyone. On the stage and in the park's exhibition areas, martial arts โ taekwondo, muay thai, boxing, and MMA โ alternate with basketball and minibasket, volleyball, rugby, track and field, archery, checkers, foosball, table tennis, horse riding, functional training, pole dance, and Latin American dances. The adjacent beach hosts beach disciplines: beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach bocce, and even traditional beach marbles. In total, over thirty disciplines are presented by local sports clubs, from taekwondo schools to the Academy Terracina Basketball and the Terracina Rugby team.
Activities typically take place in the late afternoon, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, when the pine forest offers shade and coolness: the ideal time for families with children, who represent the event's most loyal audience. For sports associations, it is an opportunity to present courses and teams ahead of the sports year, while for citizens, it is a community moment to discover how vibrant the Terracina sports scene is. There is no shortage of official team presentations and shows on the main stage.
The setting could not be more evocative: Terracina, a pearl of the province of Latina overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea between Circeo and the Gulf of Gaeta, combines the charm of the ancient city dominated by the Temple of Jupiter Anxur with miles of golden beaches. The Sports Festival enhances this dual identity, bringing sport to where the city meets the sea, and fits into the late-summer calendar of events on the Pontine coast, when the mild climate of southern Lazio still invites outdoor living.
The 2026 edition of the Terracina Sports Festival has not yet been made official: Opes Latina, the creator of the format, and the Municipality of Terracina have not yet communicated the dates. Based on previous editions โ always scheduled for the weekend of mid-September at Parco La Pineta โ the fourth edition is expected around the second weekend of September 2026.
If the format is confirmed, the public will find the formula that made the event a success: two afternoons of exhibitions and free trials with local sports associations, from martial arts to basketball, rugby to archery, and beach disciplines like beach volleyball, beach soccer, and beach bocce. At the end of the 2024 edition, the organizers expressed their desire to renew the event year after year, a commitment confirmed by the third edition in September 2025.
We recommend following the channels of Opes Latina and the Municipality of Terracina for the announcement of the dates and the official 2026 program.
By car: Terracina can be reached from Rome via the SS148 Pontina or the Via Appia (SS7); parking is available in the streets adjacent to the Circe seafront. By train: Monte San Biagio-Terracina Mare station on the Rome-Naples line via Formia, then bus to the center of Terracina. Parco La Pineta is located a short walk from the seafront.
Free admission and free sports trials for everyone. Activities usually take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, approximately from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Bring comfortable clothing and sneakers to participate in the trials; for beach disciplines, a change of clothes is useful. September in Terracina is still mild: it is ideal to combine the visit with the Temple of Jupiter Anxur or a day at the beach.
