About Carmine of Miuli

Every July, the Miuli district along Via Vittorio Veneto in Marigliano transforms for the Madonna del Carmine Festival: a week of popular devotion blending evening masses, a procession, festive lights, and grand nights of Neapolitan music. Organized by the Madonna del Carmine Via Vittorio Veneto Association, the festival unites faith and entertainment with free concerts, Neapolitan cabaret, food stalls, and a closing fireworks display, drawing thousands of people from across the Nola area.

A neighborhood festival in the heart of Marigliano

The Madonna del Carmine Festival on Via Vittorio Veneto is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Marigliano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania. It takes place in the district known to everyone as Miuli, where for a few days the street changes its face: illuminations from one end to the other, an outdoor stage, market stalls, and crowds arriving on foot even from neighboring towns. It is a street festival in the most authentic sense of the term, built by residents for their own neighborhood and open to anyone who wishes to participate.

Devotion to the Virgin of Mount Carmel

The religious heart of the festivities is the small Church of the Madonna dei Sette Dolori, which locals familiarly call the "Church of the Campanelle" (Little Bells) for its characteristic bell tower, and which houses an altarpiece attributed to the painter Angelo Mozzillo. Around this place, devotion to the Madonna of Mount Carmel has consolidated over time, a recurrence set for July 16th and experienced with particular intensity throughout the Nola and Vesuvius area, where the Virgin of the Carmine is among the most venerated figures in the popular calendar.

The religious program

Celebrations open a few days before the feast with a cycle of evening holy masses, culminating in the solemn mass on July 16th. The most anticipated moment, however, remains the procession, which on the final Sunday travels through the streets of the district accompanied by the faithful, parish children, and the band. Families leaning out from balconies, applause as the statue passes, and popular hymns tell the story of what the word tradition means here.

Musical evenings

Alongside the liturgical program, the organizing association builds three nights of completely free entertainment every year, with a lineup that focuses on contemporary Neapolitan song and Neapolitan comedy. The stage on Via Vittorio Veneto has already hosted names very popular in Campania: Andrea Sannino, Gianluca Capozzi, Peppe Iodice, Rosario Miraggio, Gigi Finizio, the comedy duo Arteteca, the trio I Ditelo Voi, Ciro Rigione, and Franco Ricciardi.

  • Concerts of Neapolitan and neomelodic music
  • Cabaret and comedy nights
  • Musical revivals and DJ sets
  • Charity lottery drawing
  • Fireworks display to close the festivities

Gastronomy and atmosphere

As in every neighborhood festival in Campania, food is an integral part of the evening: along the street, stalls line up with sandwiches, chips, fried foods, sweets, and local traditional dishes, while toy and candy stalls keep the little ones busy. The atmosphere is typical of summer nights in the Naples area, with strolling that continues until late and families meeting between one concert and the next.

A young but already very popular festival

In its current format, the festival is a recent event: the first edition dates back to 2024, while in 2025 the second edition recorded an extraordinary influx, so much so that on the final evening, vehicle access to the concert area was closed as early as 9:00 PM due to the number of attendees. The event enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Marigliano, which closely follows the organization together with the neighborhood association.

How to experience it at its best

Those arriving for the first time would do well to show up early: the streets around Via Vittorio Veneto fill up quickly, and on the nights of the main concerts, the area effectively becomes pedestrianized. The advice is to combine the two faces of the festival, the devotional one of the procession and the festive one of the concerts, to understand how in Campania, faith and popular entertainment coexist in the same week of July.

Carmine of Miuli — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Madonna del Carmine Festival of Miuli took place in Marigliano from July 13 to 19, featuring a first part of religious celebrations and three nights of shows on Via Vittorio Veneto. From July 17 to 19, the stage hosted Decibel Bellini with the comedy duo Arteteca, singer Ciro Rigione, and finally Franco Ricciardi, who closed the festivities before the fireworks display. Free admission to all evenings.

Seven days between faith and music

In 2026, the Via Vittorio Veneto festival extended its calendar: starting Monday, July 13, evening holy masses followed one another, with the solemn celebration on Thursday, July 16, the day of the Madonna of Mount Carmel, and the procession through the streets of the district on Sunday, July 19.

The civil part began Friday, July 17, with an entertainment evening entrusted to the voice of Decibel Bellini and the comedy of the duo Arteteca, together with Veronica Simeoli. Saturday, July 18, it was Ciro Rigione's turn, while Sunday, July 19, the grand finale was signed by Franco Ricciardi, preceded by the charity lottery drawing with a Fiat Panda as the prize, and followed by fireworks.

This year too, the organization was handled by the Madonna del Carmine Via Vittorio Veneto Association, with food stalls along the street and illuminations lighting up the entire Miuli district in the Municipality of Marigliano.
