Christmas markets, illuminations, and an ice rink in the Villa Comunale
The Maddaloni Christmas Village is the annual event that, for several years now, has marked the start of the holiday season in this town in the province of Caserta. The stage is set in the Villa Comunale of Piazza Don Salvatore D'Angelo, right in the city center: a green space that changes its look for over a month, filling up with wooden chalets, light installations, music, and the sounds of children's laughter. Admission is free, and the village is designed as an open meeting space for everyone, from the little ones to families, and visitors from neighboring towns enjoying an evening stroll among the lights.
The commercial heart of the event is the Christmas market, featuring wooden chalets assigned to artisans, merchants, and food vendors. In the 2025-2026 edition, the number of structures grew to twenty-one, hosting gift ideas, handmade creations, and high-quality gastronomic products. This showcase was specifically created to support small local businesses and highlight the excellence of the Caserta area, following a short supply chain philosophy strongly supported by the municipal administration.
The most popular attraction remains the ice skating rink, spanning over 300 square meters and managed under the Holiday On Ice brand. In the 2025-2026 edition, the rink was completely covered, allowing for skating even in bad weather, and made accessible to beginners with classic penguin-shaped skating aids for children. The village path winds around the rink, connecting shops, illuminations, and refreshment areas.
The entertainment program runs throughout the opening period with a packed calendar of daily or near-daily events. Highlights include bubble shows, jugglers, cartoon mascots, creative workshops at the Toy Factory, meetings with Santa Claus in his house, and the Befana who closes the season at Epiphany. There is no shortage of music: gospel choirs, DJ sets, and live concerts by artists from Campania. A new addition to the most recent edition was the Carousel with wooden horses, which immediately became a must-visit for families.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Maddaloni, coordinated by the Department of Culture, Sport, and Major Events led by Caterina Ventrone, and organized in collaboration with the APS Pro Loco San Michele. The inauguration, marked by the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Andrea De Filippo, has become a collective ritual. Alongside the village, the administration supports a calendar of recreational initiatives proposed by third-sector associations, distributed across the city's streets, squares, and neighborhoods: a way to spread the festive spirit beyond the perimeter of the Villa Comunale.
Maddaloni is one of the most populous centers in the province of Caserta, in Campania, nestled at the foot of the Tifatini mountains just a few kilometers from the Royal Palace of Caserta. Its territory is deeply linked to Bourbon history: just outside the town, you can find the famous Ponti della Valle, the spectacular arches of the Carolino Aqueduct designed by Luigi Vanvitelli and recognized by UNESCO. A visit to the Christmas Village can therefore be an opportunity to discover a part of Campania less traveled by mass tourism, rich in 18th-century heritage, popular traditions, and the gastronomy of the Terra di Lavoro.
The 2025-2026 Christmas Village in Maddaloni opened its doors on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 6:00 PM, with the ribbon-cutting by Mayor Andrea De Filippo and the Councilor for Major Events Caterina Ventrone, accompanied by the Grinch, the animated Christmas tree, and the Gospel'n Joy choir. Local news reported unprecedented attendance for a Christmas inauguration in the city.
Compared to previous years, the organization, managed by the Municipality together with the APS Pro Loco San Michele, focused on three elements: the covering of the ice rink, which allowed skating even in bad weather, the Carousel with wooden horses inaugurated in mid-December, and the expansion of the market to twenty-one chalets dedicated to crafts, gift ideas, and typical products of the province of Caserta.
The calendar alternated between mascots of children's favorite characters, bubble shows and juggling, Toy Factory workshops, Santa's House, DJ sets, and live concerts, leading up to the arrival of the Befana in the first days of January.
Activity hours were generally from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM, with the village, ice rink, and markets open throughout the period until January 11, 2026.
Villa Comunale, Piazza Don Salvatore D'Angelo, in the center of Maddaloni (CE). The area is pedestrian-friendly and easily accessible on foot from the city center.
Access to the village and markets is free. A separate ticket is required for the ice skating rink: rates, shifts, and hours are communicated directly on-site by the operator.
Weekend evenings and holidays are the busiest times: those traveling with small children may prefer the afternoon. Warm clothing and gloves are recommended for the ice skating rink.
