The award-winning LUMINOSA women's vocal ensemble performs at the Pfarrkirche in Gais
The LUMINOSA Women's Vocal Ensemble Concert is a vocal music event bringing one of the most exciting a cappella groups to emerge on the German-speaking music scene in recent years to the town of Gais, in the Puster Valley (province of Bolzano, South Tyrol). The event takes place in the evocative Pfarrkirche in Gais, the local parish church on Ulrich-von-Taufers-Straße, and is organized by the Arbeitskreis Kulturweg Gais, the local cultural committee.
LUMINOSA is a professional women's vocal ensemble founded in 2023 by six young singers. In a very short time, the group has made its mark on the international stage: in 2024, they won first prize at the 14th International A Cappella Competition in Leipzig, also securing the special prize for the best a cappella performance, and distinguished themselves at the Fanny Mendelssohn Competition. Its members are scholarship holders from music schools in Munich and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
For Gais, this is a concert of special significance: one of the ensemble's founders, Alexa Mairhofer, is originally from the village, and another member of the group also has South Tyrolean roots. LUMINOSA's return to the heart of the Puster Valley is therefore a heartfelt tribute to their home region.
The Gais concert features the "Von Nah und Fern" ("From Near and Far") program, a sonic journey that juxtaposes pieces from different eras, styles, and languages. The ensemble's repertoire ranges from classical and sacred literature to contemporary compositions, in a blend that highlights the purity and clarity of female voices within the intimate acoustics of the parish church.
Located at the mouth of the Tures Valley, the town of Gais is a quintessential Puster Valley village that combines rural tradition, historical heritage, and a vibrant cultural program curated by the Arbeitskreis Kulturweg. Concerts like the one by LUMINOSA confirm the town's commitment to hosting high-level musical performances in an authentic and picturesque setting among the mountains of South Tyrol.
The 2026 concert of the LUMINOSA Women's Vocal Ensemble takes place on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 7:30 PM in the Pfarrkirche in Gais (Ulrich-von-Taufers-Straße 22). On the program is "Von Nah und Fern," the a cappella repertoire that made the ensemble famous, featuring pieces ranging from sacred and classical music to contemporary compositions, sung in multiple languages. The concert is organized by the Arbeitskreis Kulturweg Gais and holds special significance due to the presence of co-founder Alexa Mairhofer, who is originally from the village.
