About Luco Tortello Festival

The Luco di Mugello Potato Tortello Festival is one of the oldest and most beloved culinary events in the Mugello region, near Florence. Every year in mid-June, the Grezzano sports field comes alive with the aroma of handmade potato tortelli, the true symbol of Mugello's rustic cuisine. Organized by the Polisportiva Luco ASD, the festival features tortelli served with meat sauce or butter and sage, alongside tagliatelle, grilled meats, local side dishes, and traditional desserts, all in a festive atmosphere that draws visitors from across Tuscany.

A culinary tradition in the heart of Mugello

The Luco di Mugello Potato Tortello Festival is a staple of the Tuscan festival calendar and one of the most deeply rooted local celebrations in the area. It takes place in Luco di Mugello, a village within the municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo, in the heart of the Mugello—a hilly region north of Florence renowned for its farming heritage and high-quality local products. Now in its 67th edition in 2026, the event remains a popular, family-friendly gathering powered by the local community's volunteers.

The potato tortello, king of the Mugello table

The true star of the show is the Mugello potato tortello, a traditional handmade stuffed pasta: a delicate dough shell enclosing a soft potato filling, seasoned with garlic, parsley, and sometimes a hint of calamint. At the festival, it is served in its most popular versions: with meat sauce or simply with butter and sage. Alongside the tortelli, the menu offers tagliatelle, grilled specialties, seasonal side dishes, and traditional desserts, all paired with a fine selection of wines and beer.

Popular festivities and conviviality

The Tortello Festival is above all a moment of conviviality: long tables set up under the sports field gazebos, families and friends gathered together, and the honest, welcoming atmosphere typical of Mugello village feasts. The kitchen is run entirely by volunteers from the Polisportiva Luco, who have been passing down authentic local flavors for decades, with proceeds supporting the village's sports and social activities.

The 2026 program

The 2026 edition spans two consecutive weekends: from Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th, and from Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 21st. Food stands open every evening for dinner from 7:00 PM, while on Sundays, the kitchen is also open for lunch from 12:00 PM. For information and reservations, please contact the Polisportiva.

An opportunity to discover the Mugello

Attending the festival is also a great way to explore the Mugello and the Borgo San Lorenzo area, with its rolling hills, historic villages, Romanesque parish churches, and landscapes that inspired Giotto, who was born in these very lands. A culinary excursion into the Tuscan countryside, far from the most crowded tourist routes yet only a few kilometers from Florence.
