Three weekends among the purple fields of Mugello, in Galliano di Barberino
Every summer, for three weekends between late June and mid-July, the Mugello hills turn purple. The Mugello Lavender Consortium opens its fields to the public with the Open Lavender Fields initiative, an invitation to immerse yourself in the blooming expanses of Lavandula angustifolia, the most prized species for its fragrance and its uses in phytotherapy, aromatherapy, and cooking. In Barberino di Mugello, within the Metropolitan City of Florence (Tuscany), the event takes place at the La Chiusuraccia Farm, in the village of Galliano.
The experience goes beyond a simple visit. Walking through the lavender rows and the surrounding woods, you can relax on the lawns and participate in the many activities on offer: small musical moments, yoga walks, wellness practices, honey tastings, and workshops related to the local area. Throughout the various days at the Consortium's different fields, you will find swing concerts, jazz sessions, band performances, puppet theater for children, Tibetan singing bowls, and gentle walks immersed in the scent of flowers.
During the opening, it is possible to discover and purchase products from the farms: essential oil and lavender hydrosol, sachets of dried flowers to scent your linen, lavender and chestnut honey, extra virgin olive oil, and other local specialties. A perfect chance to take home an authentic souvenir of this corner of Mugello.
The initiative involves several farms associated with the Consortium, distributed across the municipalities of Mugello: in addition to La Chiusuraccia in Galliano (Barberino di Mugello), farms in Vicchio and Borgo San Lorenzo also participate. Each farm offers its own program of activities during the opening weekends, creating a widespread route that highlights the entire territory of the Province of Florence.
Open Lavender Fields is a slow tourism event perfect for families, photographers, and nature lovers. The lavender bloom offers stunning views just a short distance from Florence, and the relaxed atmosphere among music, scents, and flavors makes the day a small sensory journey in the green heart of Tuscany.
In 2026, the lavender fields of the Mugello Lavender Consortium open to the public for three consecutive weekends, from June 27-28 to July 11-12, with continuous hours in the morning and afternoon. At the Galliano stop (Barberino di Mugello), at La Chiusuraccia, visitors can walk through the lavender rows and woods, relax on the lawns, and participate in activities organized throughout the Consortium's various days. The blooming of Lavandula angustifolia offers a stunning setting in the heart of Tuscany.
Continuous hours in the morning and afternoon, free admission with mandatory booking at the chosen farm.
On different days, spread across the associated farms (including La Chiusuraccia in Galliano), the program includes:
The daily schedule of individual performances at the farms is announced by the Consortium closer to the dates.
The Barberino stop takes place at the La Chiusuraccia Farm, in the village of Galliano (Barberino di Mugello, FI). By car from Florence, you can reach Mugello via the A1 motorway (Barberino di Mugello exit) or the SS65 della Futa road. We recommend using a car, given the rural location of the lavender fields.
Open all day during morning and afternoon slots (approximately 9 am – 1 pm and 5 pm – 8 pm). Please check the exact times when booking.
Free admission. Booking is mandatory and must be made directly with the chosen farm. For the Galliano stop: tel. +39 349 4785430. Places per time slot are limited.
Bring a hat, water, and comfortable shoes for walking between the rows. Mornings are ideal for photos and for enjoying the most intense scent of the lavender.
