Fashion takes over the historic center of Lucca with runway shows, exhibitions, and creativity
The Lucca Fashion Week(end) is an event that, for three days at the end of May, turns the historic center of Lucca into one large, open-air runway. Launched in 2023, the event has quickly secured a prominent place in the Tuscan city's cultural calendar, taking fashion out of traditional catwalks and into historic palaces, squares, loggias, and even the underground galleries of the famous Renaissance Walls. The festival appeals to both fashion enthusiasts and curious visitors alike, with a program that is largely free to attend.
The Lucca Fashion Week(end) is structured around three complementary programs that define its identity:
The event embraces some of the city's most beautiful landmarks: Piazza Cittadella, the Teatro del Giglio, Palazzo Bernardini, Villa Bottini, Palazzo Tucci, the Loggiato Pretorio in Piazza San Michele, Palazzo Pfanner, the Casa del Boia, and the Botanical Garden. Each venue hosts a different chapter of the story, from runway shows to archival exhibitions, and from creative workshops to beauty masterclasses.
The strength of the event lies in its bond with the local fabric: downtown businesses, artisan workshops, food and wine excellences, and Lucca's cultural institutions all become an integral part of the program. Alongside major Italian fashion labels, there is space for emerging brands, artistic crafts, and projects dedicated to circular fashion and sustainability. The Lucca Fashion Week(end) thus confirms itself not just as a style appointment, but as a showcase for the creativity of Lucca and all of Tuscany.
With urban installations, photography exhibitions, talks, and meetings with celebrities and fashion industry figures, the event brings every corner of the historic center to life, offering residents and visitors an immersive experience through the streets and palaces of one of Tuscany's most beloved art cities.
The fourth edition of the Lucca Fashion Week(end) took place from May 29 to 31, 2026, confirming the format divided into three programs: END with runway shows, OFF with the widespread fringe program, and EXP with exhibitions and experiences.
Among the highlights, on Friday, May 29, Piazza Cittadella hosted the "Verso Turandot" event by the Puccini Foundation, while Palazzo Pfanner welcomed the inauguration with the awarding of the Lucca Fashion Weekend Prize. On Saturday, May 30, the Casa del Boia was the setting for a party with a DJ set by Jo Squillo in collaboration with the brand Antonina Poppy.
Exhibitions included archival sketches from the Armani Foundation at the Teatro del Giglio and Renata Frediani's exhibition on the art of the table at Palazzo Bernardini. Villa Bottini hosted the hub dedicated to luxury circular fashion promoted by Cecilia Rodriguez and Ignazio Moser, while the Loggiato Pretorio offered urban installations and a masterclass on Armani Beauty fragrances.
Lucca is easily accessible by train (Lucca station, a short walk from the Walls) on the Florence-Viareggio and Lucca-Aulla lines. By car, take the A11 Firenze-Mare motorway (Lucca exit). The nearest airports are Pisa (approx. 30 km) and Florence (approx. 75 km).
Most events are free to attend; some require free registration. It is recommended to check the official website for updated details.
The historic center is pedestrianized and easy to explore on foot; it is best to leave your car in the parking lots outside the Walls. May is the ideal time to combine the event with a walk along the city Walls.
