Two days of widespread art, local flavors, and tradition in the heart of Valsesia
LozzoloArt is the event that accompanies the Saint George's patronal feast in Lozzolo, a town of just over seven hundred inhabitants nestled in the Valsesia hills, in the province of Vercelli (Piedmont). For two days, the village turns into an open-air trail: the historic center and the Castle become the setting for an event that combines contemporary art, popular tradition, gastronomy, and social life.
The heart of the festival is its itinerant program across twelve courtyards opened for the occasion: the Cortile delle Tre Sorelle, the Giardino Rotamico, the Cortile Visconteo, Casa Ersilia, the Cortile Sella, the Cortile Franchino, the Castle Stables, and the spaces of the Town Hall and School. Within the stone walls and arcades of the village, the works of over thirty-five artists and the stalls of more than sixty hobbyists find their place in a widespread market that invites visitors to stroll leisurely from one courtyard to the next.
The food and wine section is one of the festival's main attractions. Along the streets, you can taste local specialties and dishes from all over Italy: tapulun with polenta, miacce, gnocco fritto, arrosticini, Piedmontese sandwiches, risottos, paella, Sardinian flavors, penne with wild boar ragù, gelato, and craft beer. A culinary journey that naturally accompanies the visit to the courtyards and exhibitions.
LozzoloArt was born from the patron saint's feast and keeps this bond alive: on Sunday, coinciding with Liberation Day, the Santa Cecilia Band of Gattinara, local authorities, and the conscripts parade, paying homage to the war memorials and blessing the traditional fagiolata (bean stew) and pan metà bread. The event is made possible by the Comitato Loxolensis and the municipal administration, with the patronage of the Municipality of Lozzolo and the Province of Vercelli, and the hard work of about twenty volunteer associations.
There is no shortage of activities for children, with ten thematic workshops dedicated to small vegetable gardens, traditional games, the world of bees, mycology, board games, and falconry, as well as cycling activities and awareness-raising moments. A festival designed for all ages, capable of restoring the village and its Castle to their role as a living cultural space, rather than just a simple backdrop.
The first day was dedicated to wellness, sports, and gastronomy, with the opening of the courtyard trail and the first stalls of hobbyists and artists along the village streets.
The post-event report confirmed a highly successful edition, with a large audience and a festive atmosphere that highlighted the Castle as a living cultural venue.
Opening day dedicated to wellness, sports, and gastronomy, with the start of the itinerant trail through the twelve courtyards of the historic center.
Musical entertainment along the streets and participation of about twenty volunteer associations (including Amici del Libro, Cometa, Italian Red Cross).
Lozzolo is located in the province of Vercelli, at the foot of the Valsesia. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (exit Romagnano Sesia-Ghemme or Gattinara), then continue towards the Gattinara hills. The most convenient train station is Gattinara, on the Novara-Varallo line, from which Lozzolo is just a few kilometers away.
The event takes place on the weekend at the end of April, coinciding with the Saint George's patronal feast.
Access to the courtyard trail and the initiatives is free. For updated details on times and the program, it is recommended to check the social media channels of the Municipality of Lozzolo.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking through the courtyards of the historic center and allow enough time to stop and taste the specialties along the streets.
