A century of music in Borgosesia: concerts and the centenary exhibition
In 2026, the Orchestra di Fiati Città di Borgosesia celebrates a milestone few Italian musical ensembles can claim: one hundred years of uninterrupted activity. The roots of the ensemble date back to 1875, with the "Banda della Manifattura di Lane in Borgosesia" conducted by Maestro Pietro Canepa. However, the date being celebrated is 1926, the year the Municipal Band of Borgosesia was officially born from the merger of that band with the "G. Verdi" Musical Corps. Since 1962, artistic direction has been entrusted to Maestro Giancarlo Aleppo, who has led the group for over sixty years. In 2010, the ensemble adopted its current name, and in 2021, it transformed into a social promotion association.
The festivities for the hundredth anniversary are spread throughout 2026 with a rich and structured program. The opening moment was the 32nd Gala Concert, held on March 21st at the Teatro Pro Loco in Borgosesia under the direction of Maestro Aleppo, who has been awarded the honor of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The evening, welcomed by a warm audience, wove together pieces by Strauss, Mozart, Leroy Anderson, and Irving Berlin, with the participation of young local soloists.
From May 31st to June 29th, the Teatro Pro Loco on Via Sesone hosts the Centenary Exhibition, a journey through memorabilia, instruments, photographs, and historical documents that tell the story of a century of musical life in the city. The exhibition is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with school visits available by reservation.
The highlight of the celebrations is concentrated at the end of June in Piazza Garibaldi: on June 26th, the concert by the NO-VC ANBIMA Interprovincial Youth Band takes the stage, while on June 29th, the Centenary Concert is held, a symbolic closing moment of the festivities. In case of bad weather, both events will move to the Teatro Pro Loco.
Located in the heart of the Valsesia valley, in the province of Vercelli, Borgosesia is one of the key centers of northern Piedmont and guards a solid musical and band tradition. The centenary of the Orchestra di Fiati is an opportunity to rediscover this cultural heritage and enjoy some evenings of great music in an authentic and welcoming setting.
2026 is the year of the centenary: one hundred years since the birth of the Municipal Band of Borgosesia in 1926. The celebratory program is divided into several events spread throughout the year, featuring music, memory, and civic participation, under the direction of Maestro Giancarlo Aleppo. The main venue is the Teatro Pro Loco, while the summer concerts enliven Piazza Garibaldi in the heart of Borgosesia.
