The Valdarno trout festival featuring fishing competitions, music, and tradition
The Trout Festival is one of the most cherished spring events in the municipality of Loro Ciuffenna, a charming medieval village in the Province of Arezzo, listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy, in the Upper Valdarno. Founded in 1968, the event is organized by the APS Pro Loco of Loro Ciuffenna in collaboration with the municipal administration and reached its 56th edition in 2026.
The heart of the festival is the Ciuffenna stream, which flows through the village and gives the event its name. It is in these very waters that the trout fishing competitions take place, drawing expert anglers and curious onlookers to the banks. The caught trout then become the stars on the table, grilled to order at the food stand: an experience that combines sport, nature, and taste in a unique village celebration.
The festival spans two days packed with activities. Saturday is dedicated to the Golden Trout Trophy, a fishing competition in the stream, a children's and hobbyists' market, live music, and the food stand featuring the famous grilled trout, served only on Saturday evening. Sunday hosts the Italian Trout Fishing Championship, the "Flavors and Traditions" local produce market, folk music and songs, the "Pierino Pescatore" fishing contests for children, as well as dance performances and shows.
Collateral initiatives include a charity market supporting Calcit Valdarno and the Graziano Manneschi Memorial, organized by the Nuova SPS Ciuffenna as part of the Golden Trout Trophy. The Trout Festival is one of those genuine, popular celebrations that reflect the identity of the Valdarno: free admission, a convivial atmosphere, and the chance to explore the alleys and monuments of the village, from the famous medieval water mill still in operation to the nearby Romanesque parish church of San Pietro a Gropina.
The 2026 edition of the Trout Festival celebrated 56 years of the event with two days full of activities in Loro Ciuffenna. The traditional formula was confirmed, with fishing competitions in the Ciuffenna stream, the food stand, and numerous initiatives for families and enthusiasts.
