The historic market fair of Spoleto on September 8th and 9th
The Loreto Fair of Our Lady is one of the most deeply rooted events in the tradition of Spoleto, in the province of Perugia. It was established in 1598 by decree of Pope Clement VIII, during the governorship of Cinzio Passeri Aldobrandini. Originally scheduled for April 21st, the fair was moved in 1664 to June 13th, and finally to September 8th and 9th, to coincide with the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin.
The fair stretches along Viale Trento e Trieste, Largo Melvin Jones, Via Fratelli Cervi, and Via Caduti di Nassiriya, extending to the area of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway parking lot. More than 150 stalls offer a vast selection: from local products like onions, chili peppers, and porchetta to clothing, from household goods to textiles, from footwear to pottery, including animals, toys, and balloons for the little ones.
For two days, the neighborhood closes to traffic and transforms into a large open-air market, animated by the comings and goings of families and curious visitors. The Loreto Fair of Our Lady remains one of the most cherished events in Spoleto's calendar, successfully blending devotional, commercial, and convivial aspects typical of Umbrian fairs.
In 2026, the Loreto Fair of Our Lady is once again expected on its historic dates of September 8th and 9th, coinciding with the feast of the Nativity of Mary. The market will extend along Viale Trento e Trieste, Largo Melvin Jones, Via Fratelli Cervi, and Via Caduti di Nassiriya, as well as the area of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway parking lot. Among the goods, you'll find onions, chili peppers, and porchetta, alongside stalls selling clothing, household items, textiles, footwear, pottery, animals, toys, and balloons. The detailed program and any changes to traffic regulations will be announced by the Municipality of Spoleto closer to the event.
Program coming soon. The fair traditionally takes place over two days, from morning until evening, with over 150 stalls spread along Viale Trento e Trieste and the surrounding streets. Updated details and times will be published by the Municipality of Spoleto in the weeks preceding the event.
