Longano-style tripe celebrated for the patron saint Donatus
On August 7th, Longano, a municipality in the province of Isernia with just over 600 inhabitants, celebrates its patron saint Saint Donatus. The day blends spirituality, folklore, and gastronomy, with the renowned Tripe Festival as the main event: the tripe is cooked "longano-style" according to ancient recipes passed down through the community.
The festival opens with a solemn mass in honor of Saint Donatus, followed in the afternoon (around 5 PM) by the procession of the saint's statue through the village streets, accompanied by faithful, confraternities, and musicians. In Piazza Veneziale, tastings of tripe and sausage sandwiches begin, while in the evening, the celebration continues with a musical performance and traditional dances.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Longano and represents one of the most beloved summer events in the village in the province of Isernia, attracting visitors and former residents alike in celebration of an iconic recipe and devotion to the patron saint.
In 2026, Longano once again dedicates August 7th to the feast of Saint Donatus and the Tripe Festival, organized by the Pro Loco Longano. The tripe is cooked "longano-style" according to the village's ancient recipes and served in Piazza Veneziale, where food stalls complement the religious celebrations and evening festivities.
The detailed program (musical guests) will be announced by Pro Loco Longano in the weeks prior.
