Opera, theatre, music, and nature at the Teatro degli Ulivi in Fossacesia
LiveOlive is the summer festival held at the Teatro degli Ulivi, an open-air stage set within a two-hectare olive grove in Fossacesia, in the province of Chieti, in the heart of the Abruzzo region overlooking the Costa dei Trabocchi. Launched in 2025, the festival presents a programme between mid-June and mid-July that weaves together opera, comedy, theatre, and music under the starry sky, amidst the scents of the countryside and the Adriatic sea breeze.
The Teatro degli Ulivi was born from an idea by the Fossacesia-born baritone Emilio Marcucci on land planted with olive trees, with the aim of creating a dialogue between two complementary forms of nourishment: agriculture as food for the body and culture as food for the soul. The festival is promoted by the Fondazione Il Teatro degli Ulivi with the patronage of the Municipality of Fossacesia, and has made the marriage of live performance, landscape, and local products its hallmark.
The heart of the festival is the opera season, entrusted to the Orchestra Fedele Fenaroli and the Coro Selecchy, featuring young voices from the operatic scene. The programme ranges from the most beloved repertoire of Italian melodrama to opera-studio productions born from high-profile masterclasses, presented to the public in an intimate and evocative setting, illuminated by soft lights among the olive trees.
Alongside opera, LiveOlive offers the Fossacesia Fun Festival, a comedy series featuring well-known faces from Italian cabaret and stand-up, as well as evenings of dialect theatre, tango shows, variety acts, and interactive performances. A multidisciplinary programme designed for a broad and diverse audience.
Each evening is preceded, starting at 7 PM, by an aperitif consisting of typical local products: from the famous arrosticini to the genuine flavours of the Abruzzese tradition. A convivial moment that transforms the theatre visit into a complete experience, where fine dining anticipates the show.
LiveOlive is now one of the most anticipated cultural events of the summer in the Chieti area, capable of combining the great operatic tradition with the hospitality and flavours of Abruzzo.
Following the success of the inaugural edition, LiveOlive 2026 returns to the Teatro degli Ulivi in Fossacesia from June 13 to July 12, 2026, with a richer programme that weaves together opera, comedy, and open-air theatrical offerings among the olive trees.
The 2026 opera programme, featuring the Orchestra Fedele Fenaroli and the Coro Selecchy, includes:
The comedy section brings four events to the stage with Claudio Lauretta, Federico Perrotta, Dado, and Gianluca Fubelli, alongside evenings of dialect theatre, tango, variety, and interactive shows.
Each performance is preceded, from 7 PM, by an aperitif featuring typical local products, including the famous arrosticini. Reservations can be made on the website ilteatrodegliulivi.it or by calling +39 345 1578156.
The Teatro degli Ulivi is located on Via Santa Maria in Fossacesia (CH). By car, take the Val di Sangro exit on the A14 motorway, then follow the signs for Fossacesia. By train, the reference station is Fossacesia-Torino di Sangro on the Adriatic line.
Reservations can be made on the official website ilteatrodegliulivi.it or by calling +39 345 1578156. Booking in advance is recommended, given the limited capacity of the arena among the olive trees.
Performances start at 9 PM and are preceded by an aperitif from 7 PM; arriving early allows you to enjoy the tasting and the sunset over the olive grove. As it is an open-air theatre, clothing suitable for summer evenings is recommended.
