The charity punk festival in Bussoleno supporting cancer research
Live For Life – Punk vs Cancer is one of the most heartfelt events in the alternative music calendar of the Susa Valley. Born in the town of Bussoleno, in the Province of Turin, the festival is organized by the FMS Fck MainStream collective and has turned a passion for punk, ska, and hardcore into a powerful act of solidarity. Every edition raises funds for the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research in Candiolo, a center of excellence in the fight against cancer.
The formula is simple and direct: artists perform for free, and the audience contributes via a 'pay-what-you-want' (Up to You) donation, with every cent going to cancer research. The Pala Conti stage hosts a mix of legendary bands from the Susa Valley and Turin scenes alongside emerging groups, with a program ranging from old-school punk to ska, melodic hardcore, and gritty singer-songwriter performances.
The festival gives great visibility to local talent: past editions have featured the Wally Gators, a Turin-based old-school punk group active since 1993, the Crac Rural Core from Bussoleno, the historic Dialcaloiz from the Susa Valley, the ska-punk band Juda's Kiss from Lake Verbano, the melodic hardcore group Weekend Cigarettes from Alessandria, as well as Errico Canta Male and Medusa. It is a showcase that celebrates the vibrant underground scene of Piedmont.
More than just a concert, Live For Life is a meeting point for the community of Bussoleno and the entire lower Susa Valley. The idea that 'punk is love for one's neighbor' is the guiding principle of an event where music, civic engagement, and solidarity merge. Each donation leaves a tangible mark on scientific research, making the evening a virtuous example of how music culture can generate a positive impact on the local area.
