Two days of literature, music, and art at the medieval castle of Monastero Bormida
In the heart of the Langa Astigiana, the Castle of Monastero Bormida (Province of Asti, Piedmont) hosts the Literature Show. Postmodern Literary Siege, an event that reinvents the way we experience literature. Born from the frustration of poorly attended book launches, the idea is to take writers off the stage and into a continuous dialogue with the audience, music, and art. The result is a choral and immersive event that has found its perfect home in the medieval manor overlooking the Bormida river.
The hallmark of the Literature Show is its widespread literary salons: instead of an orderly sequence of presentations, small groups of three or four authors gather simultaneously in different areas of the castle. The writers' words intertwine with the musicians' notes in a continuous flow of improvisation, reading, and exchange. The audience chooses their own path, moving freely between the halls, the courtyard, and the outdoor spaces of the manor.
Alongside literary conversations, the event offers readings, art exhibitions, musical and theatrical performances, and a special focus on the local area: local crafts, food and wine, and typical products of the Langa Astigiana accompany the two days. Dozens of writers, over ten musicians, and numerous painters contribute to creating a lively atmosphere where culture becomes a popular celebration and an opportunity to meet.
Supported by the Municipality of Monastero Bormida, the Literature Show has become, in just a few years, a key appointment for the promotion of the castle and the entire Langa Astigiana region. The festival attracts authors and visitors from all over Piedmont and nearby Liguria, confirming how a small village can transform itself, for a weekend, into a widespread capital of literature.
The Literature Show. Postmodern Literary Siege returned to the Castle of Monastero Bormida on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026. Once again this year, the manor in the Langa Astigiana hosted two days entirely dedicated to literature, with the usual blend of book presentations, music, artworks, and local products.
The event reprised the formula of widespread literary salons in the various areas of the castle, where the writers' words engaged with the musicians' notes. Among the announced authors was writer Danilo Cagno with his novel Serva Italia. Admission was free for both days.
Among the announced participating authors was Danilo Cagno with a reading from his novel Serva Italia. The full program with the list of all participating writers, musicians, and artists was released by the organizers in the days leading up to the event.
