Signature lighting illuminating the City of Trulli
Every winter, the Li.Fe. – Alberobello Light Festival illuminates the City of Trulli, turning the historic center of Alberobello, in the province of Bari, into a true open-air gallery of light. The conical stone roofs of the trulli, a UNESCO World Heritage site, provide the perfect backdrop for a widespread path of interactive light installations created by international artists. The festival has become one of the most anticipated Christmas events in Puglia.
Li.Fe. is not just simple Christmas lighting: it is a contemporary art project that engages with the local identity. Squares, alleys, churches, and the Monti and Aia Piccola districts come alive with works that react to visitors' movements via advanced sensors, generating colors and shapes in real-time. The public does not just observe but becomes part of the experience, traversing a visionary landscape where the ancient stone of the trulli meets digital light technology.
The tenth edition, scheduled from December 6, 2025, to January 6, 2026, chose the theme «Light for Life» and celebrated thirty years since Alberobello's inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Notable installations included: LIFE by the Ocubo collective at Largo Martellotta, an immersive and interactive work; MAN by Amanda Parer, a contemplative figure inspired by Rodin's The Thinker; Crystal Flowers by Markus Anders on Via Monte Nero; Sunflowers by Hugo Vrijdag in Piazza D'Annunzio; and the projection LIFE for a Living World on the facade of the Church of Sant'Antonio.
In recent years, the festival has focused on sustainability: low-energy installations, reusable and locally sourced materials, and works designed to be adapted and reinstalled beyond the event dates. According to the municipal administration, light thus becomes «a message of responsibility», an invitation to care for the planet through the beauty of art.
Nestled in the Itria Valley, in the heart of Puglia, Alberobello is world-famous for its extraordinary cluster of trulli. Visiting the town during Li.Fe. means discovering a unique village in a new light, as the winter darkness enhances the play of light and shadow in the narrow streets. The festival is also an opportunity to savor Apulian hospitality and gastronomy, from orecchiette to traditional rural products, in one of the region's most beloved tourist destinations.
The 2025/2026 edition of the Li.Fe. – Alberobello Light Festival marked an important milestone: the tenth edition, held from December 6, 2025, to January 6, 2026, featured the theme «Light for Life», celebrating thirty years since Alberobello's entry into the UNESCO list.
The historic center was transformed into an immersive path with works by international artists: the interactive installation LIFE by the Ocubo collective at Largo Martellotta, MAN by Amanda Parer inspired by Rodin's The Thinker, Crystal Flowers by Markus Anders on Via Monte Nero, Sunflowers by Hugo Vrijdag in Piazza D'Annunzio, and the projection LIFE for a Living World on the Church of Sant'Antonio, dedicated to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The common thread of the edition was sustainability, with low-consumption works and reusable materials.
By car: Alberobello is accessible via the SS172 «dei Trulli» road. By train: the station is served by Ferrovie del Sud Est with connections from Bari. Nearest airports: Bari Karol Wojtyła (approx. 55 km) and Brindisi (approx. 50 km).
The installations light up at sunset and remain visible throughout the evening along the path in the historic center. Admission to the works set up in the streets and squares is free. We recommend checking the official website for updated hours and details.
Wear comfortable, warm clothing for the evening walk; shoes suitable for the cobblestone streets of the districts are recommended. On weekends and during the Christmas period, it is advisable to arrive early to find parking.
