The international extreme kayaking competition on the Sesia river between Scopa and Balmuccia
The Level Six Boss CF Valsesia, known internationally as the Boss of Valsesia, is one of the most anticipated extreme kayaking competitions on the European circuit. For an entire weekend in May, the Sesia river and the Sermenza creek, between the towns of Scopa and Balmuccia in Valsesia, become the stage for a challenge that tests the courage, technique, and endurance of the world's best paddlers. The event is much more than a race: it is considered by the organizers to be the biggest party of the year for the whitewater community.
The competitive heart of the event is the descent held on Saturday along the stretch between Scopello, Scopa, and Balmuccia, with a spectacular finish in the iconic gorges of the Sermenza creek, one of the most technical and photogenic passages in the Alps. Athletes from official teams and the top of the world rankings, hailing from twenty-five nations, line up at the start, confirming the event's international stature.
The festival offers a complete experience that goes beyond the race: days of camaraderie, kayak and packraft gatherings, free guided descents on the valley's legendary waters, and the first Packraft Meet-Up in Valsesia. Throughout the weekend, official stands dedicated to the kayaking world are set up, offering the chance to discover and test the latest innovations from industry brands, alongside food stalls serving traditional Italian dishes.
On Saturday night, from 6 PM until 1 AM, the BossKayak headquarters in Scopa hosts the BossKayak Crazy Party, a social gathering and the official awards ceremony for the winners of the Boss of Valsesia, the Boss Open Race, and the JAWS Packraft Contest. The program includes live music, DJ sets, a raffle with prizes and gadgets, food trucks, and the Open Beer Party. Admission to the party is free.
The event is organized by Boss of Valsesia & Bosskayak Season Party together with Monrosa Rafting, with the collaboration of the municipalities of Balmuccia, Scopa, Pila, and Scopello and the Unione Montana dei Comuni della Valsesia. The stated goal is to promote Valsesia, in the province of Vercelli and the Piedmont region, as a premier destination for whitewater sports, enhancing a unique natural heritage and a community of enthusiasts who respect the river and its ecosystem. Balmuccia, a co-organizing municipality, provides a tent and van parking area managed by Monrosa Rafting.
