A festival dedicated to the snails of the Rimini hills

In the heart of the Valmarecchia, the Municipality of Poggio Torriana hosts one of the most curious and beloved food and wine events in the area each year: Facciamo la Festa alla Lumaca. The event takes place in the evocative setting of the Anfiteatro Teatro Aperto, an outdoor space with about 400 seats located in via Roma, in the locality of Poggio Berni, in the province of Rimini (Emilia-Romagna). The absolute protagonist is the snail, raised on the Rimini hills and cooked according to ancient Romagna cuisine recipes.

The tradition of the "Snail Kingdom"

The festival was born from the collaboration between the Pro Loco of Poggio Berni and the local reality "Il Regno delle Chiocciole" (The Snail Kingdom), which for years has promoted the farming and consumption of snails as a typical product of the hills between Romagna and Montefeltro. Once a humble dish of peasant tradition, the snail is now rediscovered as a refined gastronomic specialty: during the festival, it is offered in numerous preparations, from classic stewed cooking to more creative recipes, always accompanied by other typical Romagna dishes.

The National Snail Palio

Among the most anticipated events is the National Snail Palio, a fun and spectacular race that attracts curious onlookers and enthusiasts every year. It is the most characteristic and entertaining moment of the event, capable of bringing together young and old around a tradition that brings smiles and humorously tells the identity of the territory.

Dinners, music, and shows

The food stalls open in the early evening, around 7:00 PM, when the amphitheater fills with tables. The evenings are enlivened by free live concerts and tribute shows dedicated to the great names of Italian music, from covers of hits from the '70s to the 2000s to homages to the most beloved singer-songwriters. Admission to the shows is free, in the true spirit of a village festival.

Facciamo la Festa alla Lumaca is much more than a simple festival: it is an opportunity to discover the Valmarecchia and the hills of the Rimini hinterland, far from the coast but just a few kilometers from the beaches.
