A day of drawing and creativity among the artworks of the Maglione open-air museum
In the hillside village of Maglione, in the province of Turin, the MACAM - Open-Air Contemporary Art Museum opens its streets and squares to children for a day entirely dedicated to drawing and creativity. Let's Draw Art at MACAM is part of the Disegniamo l'Arte spring initiative, promoted by the Abbonamento Musei association, which every year involves dozens of museums across Piedmont, Lombardy, and the Aosta Valley to introduce young people to artistic heritage in an active, free, and participatory way.
Founded in 1985, MACAM is a rare example of a completely open-air museum with free admission: the artworks—over 160 murals, sculptures, and installations by Italian and international artists—are displayed on the facades of houses and in the village's public spaces. Walking through Maglione means traversing a true contemporary art collection spread throughout the town, with no tickets or set hours, immersed in the landscape of the lower Canavese morainic hills, about twenty kilometers from Ivrea.
During the event, the museum offers workshops and activities designed especially for children and teenagers: with a sheet of paper and some colors, young visitors are invited to observe the artworks up close, capture their details, and reinterpret them through their own eyes. Drawing thus becomes a tool for discovery, making the visit a personal and fun experience that engages even the adults accompanying the little ones.
The strength of Disegniamo l'Arte lies in its regional scale: on the same weekend, art galleries, Savoy residences, historic gardens, and small village museums join in with proposals dedicated to families. MACAM participates in this major project every year, bringing its identity as a community museum to the heart of the Municipality of Maglione and helping to introduce new audiences to the artistic treasures of Piedmont.

By public transport, the nearest train station is Ivrea, from where you can continue via local bus connections.
Admission to MACAM is always free. The Disegniamo l'Arte activities usually require booking via the Abbonamento Musei website. For information on times and workshops, it is recommended to contact the museum directly: tel. +39 340 3407703, e-mail [email protected].
