The May festival amidst woods, music, and poetry in Civiasco
Leggiadrissima Eterna Primavera is the event that annually inaugurates the season of the La Notte del Re di Biss festival in Civiasco, a mountain village in the Valsesia valley situated at an altitude of 716 meters, just a few kilometers from Varallo, in the province of Vercelli, in the heart of Upper Piedmont. It is a May festival, both ancient and ever-new, that traverses the symbols of the season and the forms of nature, embracing its transformation.
The day unfolds from morning until sunset, weaving together different artistic languages in the village's most evocative spots. The meeting point for the grand opening of the season is at the Church of San Rocco, at the entrance to the village. From here, a short walk through the woods leads to the secret meadow in front of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Frassineto, where a theatrical performance dedicated to poetry is staged, using an intimate language capable of surprising the audience.
In the afternoon, the festivities move toward the vegetable gardens in the Alla Piana area, featuring an open-air convivial moment and a series of activities including art installations, spring songs, alpine music, poetic oracles, and guided botanical walks. Visitors also have the opportunity to visit the Ercole Durio da Roc Civic Museum, which preserves the local heritage.
La Notte del Re di Biss is a music and storytelling festival that explores the relationship between humanity and nature through poetry, folklore, and experimental performance, inspired by the mythological figure of the King of Snakes from local tradition. The festival is divided into several events throughout the year: the spring opening of Leggiadrissima Eterna Primavera in May, the summer edition in mid-August, and the autumn appointment of Colma d'autunno in October.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Civiasco under the artistic direction of singer-songwriter Carlotta Sillano, and is a project that highlights the mountain landscape and the community of the Valsesian village.
All events at Leggiadrissima Eterna Primavera are free to attend. The day is designed for families, nature enthusiasts, hikers, and lovers of music and poetry, set in an intimate atmosphere immersed in the greenery of the Piedmontese woods. A refreshment area with books, games, and local products accompanies visitors throughout the duration of the festival.
