Snipe class sailing regatta on Lake Ledro, a stage of the Alpe Adria Region Snipe Series
The Ledro Snipe – Renzo Gnuffi Trophy and Renato Bruni Memorial is the most anticipated sailing event of the summer on Lake Ledro, in the municipality of Ledro, in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Organized by the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro (AVLL), the event brings together every year the crews of the Snipe class, the historic two-person dinghy popular worldwide, for two days of racing on one of the most evocative Alpine bodies of water in Trentino.
The regatta is a stage of the Alpe Adria Region Snipe Series, the circuit that connects sailing clubs in the Italian, Austrian, and Slovenian Alpine area. On Lake Ledro, crews from all over the XIV Zone and beyond compete in a spirit of sportsmanship and friendship. The lake's wind conditions, often light and technical, make the races particularly selective and appreciated by the most experienced sailors.
The event bears a double name rich in meaning. The Renzo Gnuffi Trophy is dedicated to the memory of the local sailor who passed away in 2015 while sailing his Snipe: an award created to honor his passion and his bond with the lake. The Renato Bruni Memorial instead remembers a historic figure of the Cremona Sailing Club, ideally uniting two sailing communities bonded by the same discipline.
The roots of this competition go back nearly a century: the first regattas on Lake Ledro were organized in the 1920s, while the historic "August regatta" became the Palazzolo Trophy in 1965, later the Cassa Rurale di Ledro Trophy, and has now merged into the current format dedicated to Gnuffi and Bruni.
The AVLL was founded on July 17, 1963, with the goal of promoting sailing and related sports. Based in Pieve di Ledro, on Via Alzer, the association is active from May to September and organizes numerous regattas during the season, including the "Due giorni Ledro" dedicated to young Optimist class sailors, as well as a sailing school and the VelaScuola project in local schools. Over the years, the lake has also hosted prestigious international events, testifying to a solid and recognized sailing tradition.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Ledro Snipe is a gathering opportunity for the sailing community, with the traditional social dinner accompanying the awards ceremony. The setting of Lake Ledro, with its clear waters and crown of mountains, offers sailors and visitors a weekend dedicated to outdoor sports and the discovery of an authentic corner of Trentino.
The 9th edition of the Renato Bruni Memorial, combined with the Renzo Gnuffi Trophy, is scheduled for July 25 and 26, 2026, on Lake Ledro. Activities kick off at 08:00 on Saturday, July 25, and continue until the evening of Sunday, July 26. The regatta is an official stage of the Alpe Adria Region Snipe Series. The Notice of Race and the notice for the social dinner are published on the AVLL website. Organized by the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro.
