Tradition, gastronomy, and entertainment in the historic center of Solarino
Le vie di Demetra is the event that transforms the historic center of Solarino, a small town in the province of Syracuse nestled on the southern slopes of the Monti Climiti, into a vibrant, open-air stage. For three days, from Friday to Sunday, the town's squares and streets are filled with authentic flavors, traditional crafts, art, music, and entertainment. The event is organized by the Municipality of Solarino in collaboration with Etna Eventi Management One and the Galleria Antropologica.
The festival's name pays homage to Demeter, the Greek deity of agriculture, grain, and fertility, who is deeply rooted in the culture of ancient Sicily. This choice is no coincidence: Solarino's economy has always been tied to the land, with the production of high-quality cereals, grain, vegetables, olives, and citrus fruits. The festival thus celebrates the rural vocation of the Iblean territory, rediscovering the sacredness of bread and the fruits of the earth.
The beating heart of the festival is the food stalls, which offer typical products and traditional local recipes. Alongside the food, ample space is dedicated to thematic workshops that bring ancient crafts back to life:
The event offers a rich program of exhibitions and cultural appointments: the Arte Comune painting exhibition, curated by Professor Porrello, performances by the Solarino Majorettes, the spectacular Fiat 500 and vintage car parade, dance school performances, sports demonstrations, and live concerts that animate the evenings. There is also a guided tour, Visit Solarino, to discover the town's historical sites, departing from Piazza Plebiscito.
With its mix of gastronomy, culture, craftsmanship, and entertainment, Le vie di Demetra is a town festival designed for all ages, capable of uniting the community of Solarino and welcoming visitors from across the province of Syracuse and the rest of Sicily. A full immersion into Iblean traditions, to be experienced while strolling through the streets of the historic center.
The 2026 edition was held from Friday, May 15th to Sunday, May 17th in the historic center of Solarino. The event kicked off on Friday at 8:00 PM with the inauguration of the food stalls and the Arte Comune painting exhibition, curated by Professor Porrello, followed by a performance by the Solarino Majorettes and, at 9:00 PM, DJ sets and the Familia Loca dance school. Saturday afternoon featured a parade and exhibition of Fiat 500s, workshops on the art of recycling and memory by Daniele Interlandi and weaving with Claudio Romano, as well as the screening of the documentary The Sacredness of Bread in the Iblei. Sunday morning was dedicated to the Visit Solarino guided tour, departing from Piazza Plebiscito, while the afternoon featured workshops on fresh pasta, papier-mรขchรฉ, dialect readings, and stone carving, the 6:00 PM concert, a martial arts demonstration, and, from 9:00 PM, music by the Saulo's Soul Group.
Solarino is located about 15 km west of Syracuse, on the slopes of the Monti Climiti. By car, it can be reached via the SP14 from Syracuse or the SS124 connecting with Floridia. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about 60 km away. The reference train station is Syracuse, from which you can continue by bus or car.
The event animates the historic center of Solarino, with Piazza del Plebiscito as the main hub, as well as the council chamber and the surrounding streets.
Admission to the event is free. For the Visit Solarino guided tour, booking is required at the Pro Loco stand.
