The festival of secret places: archaeology, sea, and historic wineries
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Le Vie dei Tesori is the largest festival dedicated to exploring Sicily's cultural heritage, and in Marsala, in the heart of the Trapani province, it has become a highly anticipated autumn event. For a few weekends, the Lilibean city unveils sites that are usually closed or little-known: Punic wrecks, Phoenician artifacts, Roman domus, early Christian hypogea, Basilian abbeys, Byzantine frescoes, and chapels carved into soft tuff rock. The festival is organized by the Fondazione Le Vie dei Tesori, chaired by Laura Anello, which has been bringing this model of widespread cultural tourism to Marsala since 2019.
The itinerary spans centuries of history. Key sites from recent editions include the San Pietro Monumental Complex, home to the Civic Museums, and the Santa Maria della Grotta Complex, a testament to the presence of Basilian monks in the Norman era. Not to be missed are the Hypogeum of Crispia Salvia, unique in Sicily for its rich pictorial decoration, and the Latomie Niccolini, ancient Christian burial sites featuring paintings and mosaics. Visitors can also explore the Cave Park (the small canyons of Sicily), the Wine Museum, Palazzo VII Aprile, the Eliodoro Sollima Municipal Theatre, and numerous Baroque churches.
Beyond the tours, Le Vie dei Tesori offers exclusive experiences: small-plane flights over the Egadi Islands (Favignana and Levanzo), narrated walking tours, workshops for children, yoga sessions among the monuments, and tastings in the historic Marsala wine cellars. It is the perfect way to grasp the deep bond between the city, the sea, the salt pans, and its famous winemaking tradition.
Access to the sites is granted via coupons at a symbolic cost, which can be purchased online or on-site: a system designed to make culture accessible to everyone while supporting the preservation and promotion of the open sites. Booking is recommended to secure your visit at your preferred time.
