The festival of secret places, from Baroque oratories to catacombs and historic mansions
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Le Vie dei Tesori is the largest festival dedicated to discovering cultural heritage in Sicily, and in Carini, within the metropolitan city of Palermo, it has become a highly anticipated autumn event. For several weekends, the town unveils sites that are usually closed or little-known: oratories decorated in Rococo style, Baroque churches, crypts, noble mansions, and archaeological sites. The festival is organized by the Fondazione Le Vie dei Tesori, chaired by Laura Anello, which has brought this model of widespread cultural tourism to Carini since its first participation in 2021.
The itinerary spans centuries of history and devotion. Key sites from recent editions include the Serpotta-style oratories and the Church of the Agonizzanti with its Rococo splendor, the crypt and colatoi (burial chambers), as well as the massive catacomb complex of Villagrazia di Carini. Visitors can explore the recently restored early Christian mosaic of Prince De Spuches, the Church of San Vito with its parish museum and the statue of the patron saint, the summer residence of the La Grua barons, the Roccazzello urban park with its 16th-century open-air church, and the Francesco Scavo Library in the Carmine cloister, home to 45,000 volumes.
Beyond standard tours, Le Vie dei Tesori offers exclusive experiences in Carini: "sound" walks among monumental organs, sunset boat trips along the coast, yoga and pilates sessions overlooking the sea, and storytelling sessions dedicated to the Targa Florio Museum and local artisanal traditions. It is the perfect way to grasp the deep connection between the town, its noble history, and the Palermo coastline.
Access to sites is managed via coupons at a symbolic cost, which can be purchased online or at local info points: a formula designed to make culture accessible to everyone while supporting the maintenance and promotion of the open sites. Booking is recommended, especially for the most popular sites and limited-capacity experiences.
