Theatre on the Lagoon: free concerts and shows under the stars in Orbetello
The Le Crociere Festival – Theatre on the Lagoon has become one of the landmark events of the Maremma summer. It takes place in Orbetello, a jewel of the Grosseto province in the heart of southern Tuscany, and brings big names from the Italian music and entertainment scene to the stage with a unique formula: free and open admission.
The beating heart of the festival is the Piazzale Lungolago Marinai d'Italia, a scenic space overlooking the Orbetello lagoon, right in front of the famous Spanish Mill, the town's iconic symbol. As evening falls and the lights reflect on the water, the area transforms into an open-air theatre with an intimate, evocative atmosphere, welcoming a diverse and enthusiastic audience.
What sets the festival apart is its long-standing commitment to hosting concerts by established artists with no ticket barriers: a high-quality cultural offering designed to be accessible to everyone, from families and young people to the many tourists flocking to the Silver Coast in August. Over the years, the festival has showcased a mix of music, theatre, and cabaret, hosting singer-songwriters, bands, comedians, and famous national figures.
Attending a Le Crociere Festival concert is also a perfect opportunity to discover Orbetello and its extraordinary natural setting: the town sits on a narrow strip of land in the middle of the lagoon, within a protected oasis known for its flamingos and rich birdlife. All around, the Argentario, the Maremma beaches, and the inland villages complete a territory that blends culture, nature, and gastronomy. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Orbetello, which has invested for years in the local summer season as a key tourist attraction and community gathering point.
The summer of 2026 in Orbetello heats up with two evenings of great music with free admission, in the setting of the Lungolago Marinai d'Italia, in front of the Spanish Mill. The festival, organized by the Municipality of Orbetello and produced by Ad Arte Spettacoli, confirms its winning formula of major concerts accessible to everyone.
Both concerts take place at the Piazzale Lungolago Marinai d'Italia in Orbetello, starting at 9:30 PM with free and open admission.
Orbetello can be reached by car via the SS1 Aurelia road (Orbetello exit). By train, the local station is Orbetello-Monte Argentario, on the Rome-Pisa-Genoa line, just a few minutes from the town centre. The nearest airports are Rome Fiumicino and Pisa.
Le Crociere Festival concerts are free and open to the public, with no reservation required. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot, especially for headline acts.
In August, Orbetello and the Argentario area are very busy: book hotels, B&Bs, or campsites well in advance. The shows are held outdoors on the waterfront, so a light jacket or sweater is recommended for the evening.
