About Lavarone-Prato Twinning

The Lavarone-Prato Twinning Festival is an annual spring celebration of the friendship pact signed in 2002 between the municipality of Lavarone, on the Alpe Cimbra in Trentino, and the city of Prato in Tuscany. Two days of official meetings, cultural events, and sports activities unite the Cimbrian and Pratese communities, featuring mountain choir concerts, the traditional Friendship Run open to everyone, and tastings of local products from both regions.

The Lavarone-Prato Twinning Festival

The Lavarone-Prato Twinning Festival is a spring event that renews the bond of friendship between two geographically distant communities, united by over twenty years of exchanges: the municipality of Lavarone, on the Alpe Cimbra in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), and the city of Prato, in Tuscany. The friendship pact was signed in 2002, and since then, in alternating years, delegations, choirs, and sports groups from the two towns have visited each other to strengthen a relationship built on culture, tradition, and solidarity.

A Weekend Between Mountains and Tuscany

The event takes place over two days in Lavarone, hosted at the Gionghi Congress Center and in the town squares. The program alternates between official ceremonies, cultural initiatives, and sports activities. The cultural heart of the festival is the concert that brings together the Coro Stella Alpina di Lavarone and the Gruppo Musicale Pratese on stage, blending mountain songs with Tuscan melodies.

The Friendship Run

Among the most anticipated events is the Friendship Run (or Twinning Run), a non-competitive race open to everyone with free registration, organized with the support of the Municipal Police sports groups from both cities. It serves as the sporting symbol of a festival that has attracted hundreds of participants over the years.

Flavors of Two Regions

The food and wine experience is a highlight, with tastings that showcase the typical products of the Alpe Cimbra alongside Pratese specialties, ranging from Trentino cheeses and cured meats to Tuscan crostini and cantucci. The twinning event is also a perfect opportunity to discover Lavarone and its landmarks, from the Forte Belvedere and Great War sites to the lake and the plateau's hiking trails.

Where and When

The festival is held in Lavarone, in the province of Trento, generally at the end of May. It is organized by the Municipality of Lavarone in partnership with the Alpe Cimbra Folgaria Lavarone Luserna Vigolana Tourist Board and local associations, in collaboration with the Municipality of Prato.
