Two days of friendship between the Alpe Cimbra and Tuscany, featuring choirs, running, and local delicacies
The Lavarone-Prato Twinning Festival is a spring event that renews the bond of friendship between two geographically distant communities, united by over twenty years of exchanges: the municipality of Lavarone, on the Alpe Cimbra in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), and the city of Prato, in Tuscany. The friendship pact was signed in 2002, and since then, in alternating years, delegations, choirs, and sports groups from the two towns have visited each other to strengthen a relationship built on culture, tradition, and solidarity.
The event takes place over two days in Lavarone, hosted at the Gionghi Congress Center and in the town squares. The program alternates between official ceremonies, cultural initiatives, and sports activities. The cultural heart of the festival is the concert that brings together the Coro Stella Alpina di Lavarone and the Gruppo Musicale Pratese on stage, blending mountain songs with Tuscan melodies.
Among the most anticipated events is the Friendship Run (or Twinning Run), a non-competitive race open to everyone with free registration, organized with the support of the Municipal Police sports groups from both cities. It serves as the sporting symbol of a festival that has attracted hundreds of participants over the years.
The food and wine experience is a highlight, with tastings that showcase the typical products of the Alpe Cimbra alongside Pratese specialties, ranging from Trentino cheeses and cured meats to Tuscan crostini and cantucci. The twinning event is also a perfect opportunity to discover Lavarone and its landmarks, from the Forte Belvedere and Great War sites to the lake and the plateau's hiking trails.
The festival is held in Lavarone, in the province of Trento, generally at the end of May. It is organized by the Municipality of Lavarone in partnership with the Alpe Cimbra Folgaria Lavarone Luserna Vigolana Tourist Board and local associations, in collaboration with the Municipality of Prato.
The 2026 edition marked 23 years of the friendship pact between the municipalities of Lavarone and Prato. Over 150 people from Prato traveled to the Alpe Cimbra for the official visit. On the afternoon of Saturday, May 30, the delegations visited Forte Belvedere, the lake, and the nature trails of Lavarone; the evening concluded with dinner and a concert by the Coro Stella Alpina di Lavarone together with the Gruppo Musicale Pratese and the Corale San Martino of Prato.
Sunday, May 31, was the day of the Friendship Run, which recorded over 200 registrants, followed by tastings of food and wine products from both regions, from Trentino cheeses and cured meats to Tuscan crostini and cantucci. The festival hosted official ceremonies that reaffirmed the value of a bond born in 2002.
Lavarone is located on the Alpe Cimbra in the Province of Trento. It can be reached from Trento by traveling up the Valsugana valley to Caldonazzo and then taking the mountain road; from the A22 Brennero motorway, take the Trento or Rovereto Nord exit.
Participation in public events and the Friendship Run is free. For information: Alpe Cimbra Tourist Board, tel. +39 0464 724130, [email protected].
The event usually takes place at the end of May over two days (Saturday and Sunday).
