The Carnival of Castel di Lama with allegorical floats, zanni, and piazza festivities
The Lamense Carnival is the most colorful and festive event of winter in Castel di Lama, a municipality in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, in southern Marche. For an entire day, the streets of the town, particularly the area of Via della Stazione and the hamlet of Villa Sant'Antonio, transform into a grand open-air stage filled with masks, confetti, music, and shared joy.
The Lamense Carnival has deep roots in a long tradition: for about thirty years, the community has come together to create a piazza celebration that centers on the participation of everyone, from children to adults. It is a popular and family-friendly Carnival, born from the desire of the inhabitants of Castel di Lama to liven up their territory with a joyful and welcoming spirit, typical of the Piceno villages.
The heart of the event is the masked parade, with traditional allegorical floats and masked groups parading through the town's streets. In recent years, the festival has been enriched by the parade of the zanni, the characteristic masks of historical Piceno carnivals, who liven up the streets with the music of accordions. The organization aims to involve the protagonists of the historical Carnivals of the territory, from the groups of Acquasanta Terme to the confraternities of Offida, to intertwine fun with the memory of Piceno's popular traditions.
The Lamense Carnival is designed primarily for families and children: in addition to the parades, there are street performers, music, confetti, face painting, and entertainment along the route. The atmosphere is that of a village festival, simple and authentic, where the piazza once again becomes a place for the entire community to meet and play.
The event is promoted by the association Il Miglio with the patronage of the Municipality of Castel di Lama, in collaboration with local associations and volunteer organizations. A teamwork effort that allows the event to be renewed each year and keep alive one of the most beloved festivals in the Lamense calendar.
