The mountain race to the Lasa marble quarry
The Laaser Marmor Trophy is much more than just a mountain running race: it is a journey into the world of the famous Lasa white marble, one of the most prized materials in the world, extracted for centuries from the slopes of the mountain overlooking the village. The event takes place in Lasa (Laas), a bilingual municipality in the Upper Venosta Valley, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The track covers 7.5 kilometers with an elevation gain of about 700 meters, leading runners from the town center to the marble quarry that opens up above Lasa. Starting from the Via dell'Industria area, the route follows the tracks of the historic marble railway (the Marmorbahn) and continues along mountain trails and mule tracks, before the most evocative finale: over 365 steps carved into the rock tunnel that lead to the finish line in the quarry basin. It is this combination—fast, flat sections, forest climbs, and the final underground staircase—that makes the Marmor Trophy one of the most distinctive races in the entire Venosta Valley.
The race offers two ways to participate: a competitive race valid for FIDAL categories and Runcard holders, and a non-competitive category (hobby and walking) open to everyone, for which no competitive medical certificate is required. In this way, the Marmor Trophy brings together top-level athletes and casual enthusiasts who want to experience the climb to the marble on foot.
The event is organized by ASC Laas Raiffeisen in collaboration with Lasa Marmo and local partners. Established in 2018, the Marmor Trophy has established itself over the years as one of the most anticipated sporting events of the Venosta summer, attracting runners from all over Alto Adige/Südtirol and beyond. The setting is the spectacular Silandro and Lasa area, where sport, nature, and the culture of marble merge into a single event.
The 2026 Laaser Marmor Trophy was held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, starting at 4:00 PM from the Via dell'Industria area in the center of Lasa. The track featured its classic 7.5 km with approximately 700 meters of elevation gain, from the town square to the marble quarry, following the marble railway, mountain trails, and the final staircase in the tunnel.
As per tradition, the race offered two participation modes: the competitive race valid for FIDAL classes and Runcard holders, and the hobby/walking category, with no requirement for a competitive medical certificate. Organized by ASC Laas Raiffeisen.
