Exhibitions of the national FIAF festival dedicated to Italian photography, held between the Castello dei Conti Guidi and Palazzo Giorgi in the heart of the Casentino valley.
The Italian Photography Festival is the first major event entirely dedicated to Italian photography, launched in 2024 by the FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations) and hosted in the Casentino valley, in the province of Arezzo. The festival is spread across several villages in the valleyโBibbiena, Poppi, and Pratovecchio Stiaโand offers dozens of exhibitions, meetings, talks, portfolio reviews, and workshops every year, all revolving around a shared theme.
Poppi, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, is one of the event's historic venues. The exhibitions are concentrated in two iconic locations in the historic center: the monumental Castello dei Conti Guidi, which dominates the valley with its tower, and Palazzo Giorgi, located along the village streets. Visiting the festival in Poppi means combining the discovery of fine-art photography with one of the most fascinating medieval architectural heritages in Tuscany.
Each edition of the festival revolves around a major theme. The 2026 edition is dedicated to "Rites and Visions. Between the Spiritual and the Material", a journey exploring the forms of contemporary spirituality, the gestures, places, and bodies through which the sacred continues to permeate the present. The heart of the event remains in Bibbiena at the CIFA - Italian Center for Fine-Art Photography, but the Poppi venues complete the narrative with dedicated exhibitions.
The inauguration of the Poppi exhibitions traditionally takes place during the festival's opening weekend, with a dedicated event at the Castello dei Conti Guidi. Over the years, the festival has brought archival rediscoveries and author projects to Poppi, ranging from the recovery of historical Italian female photographers to thematic exhibitions linked to the common thread of each edition.
With its widespread format, the Italian Photography Festival has made the Casentino and the Municipality of Poppi a landmark for photography enthusiasts, while simultaneously promoting the villages of the province of Arezzo and Tuscany. The event runs throughout the summer, allowing visitors to plan their trip at a leisurely pace and combine it with the discovery of the Casentino territory.
The third edition of the Italian Photography Festival is dedicated to the theme "Rites and Visions. Between the Spiritual and the Material", an investigation into contemporary spirituality and the forms of the sacred in the present. The event, promoted by the FIAF with the support of the Fondazione CR Firenze and curated by Denis Curti and Roberto Rossi, takes place from June 12 to September 6, 2026, across Bibbiena, Poppi, and Pratovecchio Stia. In Poppi, the exhibitions occupy the Castello dei Conti Guidi and Palazzo Giorgi.
The festival exhibitions in Poppi (AR) are located at the Castello dei Conti Guidi (Piazza della Repubblica 1) and Palazzo Giorgi (Via Cesare Battisti), in the village's historic center.
By car from the A1 motorway, take the Arezzo exit, then the SR71 towards Casentino (approx. 30-40 minutes). By train, use the La Ferroviaria Italiana line (Arezzo-Stia), get off at Poppi station, then take a shuttle or walk up to the village. Parking is available near the center.
Exhibitions generally follow summer hours (Thursday-Sunday, morning and afternoon; from Wednesday in August). Most events are free of charge; some specific exhibitions may require a ticket. Please check the official website for updated hours and prices.
