Non-competitive Ferragosto race in the Vanoi Valley
Every August 15th, the small village of Canal San Bovo, nestled in the heart of the Vanoi Valley in the province of Trento, hosts La Peschedada, a non-competitive race that has become a staple of the Trentino Ferragosto celebrations. Organized by the Vanoi Valley Tourist Consortium, the event attracts walkers, families, and running enthusiasts who tackle a scenic trail through the meadows and woods surrounding the village.
The main course spans approximately 9 kilometers along trails and dirt roads in the valley's surroundings, heading toward Gobbera, Zortea, Prade, and Ronco. It features a total elevation gain of about 400 meters, with an average completion time of around two hours. The route opens up to views of the Lozen-Vanoi basin, set against the backdrop of the Trentino Dolomites, offering stunning vistas throughout the walk. The race starts in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, in the center of Canal San Bovo.
La Peschedada is designed as a fun run open to all, from the youngest children to the elderly. A shorter mini-circuit is available for children up to twelve years old, with an earlier start time, allowing the youngest participants to join in the festivities. The race is part of the Primiero Running Circuit, which brings together various non-competitive events across the Primiero and Vanoi areas throughout the summer.
After the race, the day continues with the awards ceremony, followed by food stalls and a dance party in the square. The most anticipated moment arrives late at night with a fireworks display that closes the festivities, illuminating the sky above the valley. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the community spirit typical of mountain villages, where sports, local tradition, and conviviality intertwine.
Located in Trentino-Alto Adige, Canal San Bovo is the main hub of the Vanoi Valley, an area of great natural beauty on the edge of the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park. La Peschedada is one of the highlights of the valley's summer, blending a passion for mountain running with the warmth of village festivals.
For Ferragosto 2026, La Peschedada returns to Canal San Bovo on Saturday, August 15th. Registration opens at 1:30 PM, the children's mini-circuit starts at 3:30 PM, and the main 9 km race kicks off at 4:00 PM from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 PM, followed by food stalls and a dance party; the festivities conclude late in the evening with a fireworks display.
The event is part of the Primiero Running Circuit and is open to everyone, with fees starting at 5 euros for the mini-circuit and 10 euros for adults and teenagers.
Canal San Bovo can be reached by car from the Valsugana (SS47) by heading up towards Passo Brocon, or from Primiero. The nearest train station is Feltre; from there, continue by bus or car.
Register at the Canal San Bovo Tourist Office (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM) or on the day of the event starting at 1:30 PM. Indicative fees: 10 euros for adults without a meal, 15 euros with a meal; 5 euros for the children's mini-circuit.
