An evening of love and poetry in the Old Hamlet of Grottammare Alta
La Notte Romantica is the major national festival promoted by the association I Borghi più belli d'Italia, which every year, around the summer solstice, simultaneously involves almost two hundred villages throughout the peninsula. For one evening, candles, torches, and soft lights illuminate squares and alleys, and love becomes the common thread of concerts, walks, special openings, and themed menus. In Grottammare, a pearl of the Adriatic in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, the event takes place in the heart of Grottammare Alta, the charming Vecchio Incasato (Old Hamlet), with the scenic Piazza Peretti as its epicentre.
In Grottammare, La Notte Romantica has a unique soul: it intertwines with the International Poetry Festival "La punta della lingua", one of the longest-running poetry events in the Marche region, which brings verses, readings, and performances within the walls of the medieval village. Walking in the evening along the alleys of the Vecchio Incasato, amidst arches, staircases, and small squares overlooking the sea, while the words of poets resonate, is an experience that uniquely blends heritage, landscape, and culture.
The upper part of Grottammare, surrounded by pine forests, citrus groves, and palm trees, holds a deep connection with poetry: the Marche poet Francesco Scarabicchi spent his early years here, and the celebrated American beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti also dedicated verses to these places.
The evening is designed for couples, families, and curious travellers: admission is free, and the atmosphere invites you to slow down, listen, and be surprised by the beauty of the illuminated village. La Notte Romantica symbolically opens Grottammare's long summer of culture, which from June to September enlivens the historic centre, squares, and seafront with dozens of events.
Overlooking the Riviera delle Palme, in the southern Marche region, Grottammare combines the seaside liveliness of the lower part with the timeless charm of the old town, one of the most beloved on the coast. Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, it is the ideal setting for a night dedicated to love and beauty.
For 2026, Grottammare's Notte Romantica is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, starting at 6 PM, in the Vecchio Incasato of Grottammare Alta. The evening is part of the Municipality's rich summer program and is linked to the International Poetry Festival "La punta della lingua", which in 2026 celebrates its twenty-first edition, involving various towns in the Marche region.
Among the alleys of the medieval village and in Piazza Peretti, the romantic atmosphere of the summer night meets the verses of poets, in a journey of readings and suggestions open to all. The event symbolically inaugurates Grottammare's long cultural programming, which runs from June to September.
The complete details of the guests and schedule for the poetry festival will be published by the organizers closer to the event. The evening takes place in Grottammare Alta, in the historic centre.
