Literary festival in the historic village of Monteprandone
Piceno d'Autore is the literary review that has enlivened the summer of Monteprandone, a hilltop village in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in southern Marche, for over fifteen years. The meetings are held in the scenic Piazza San Giacomo, in the heart of the historic center, where each evening becomes an opportunity to hear writers, essayists, philosophers, and protagonists of Italian public debate live.
The festival is organized by the cultural association I Luoghi della Scrittura, with the patronage of the Municipality of Monteprandone and the support of local entities such as BIM Tronto and Banca del Piceno. Each edition is built around a central theme that intertwines literature, current events, and social issues: authors do not just present their books, but engage in dialogue with the public and local interlocutors, creating evenings of in-depth discussion and reflection.
Over the years, Piceno d'Autore has brought some of the most well-known names in Italian culture to Monteprandone. The 2025 edition hosted the writer and essayist Gianrico Carofiglio and the philosopher and theologian Vito Mancuso; previous editions have seen the participation, among others, of Massimo Cacciari, Umberto Galimberti, and Francesco Giorgino. A proposal that makes the quality of its guests and the depth of its themes its distinctive feature.
Monteprandone is one of the most characteristic villages in the Piceno area, linked to the figure of San Giacomo della Marca and overlooking the Tronto valley, a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast of San Benedetto del Tronto. Participating in Piceno d'Autore also means discovering the historic village at sunset, among alleys, panoramic views, and the intimate atmosphere of the square that hosts the events.
The seventeenth edition of Piceno d'Autore will take place in July 2026 in the charming Piazza San Giacomo, in the historic village of Monteprandone (AP). The festival reaffirms its identity: a series of free evening events featuring authors, essayists, and leading figures of Italian culture, organized by the association I Luoghi della Scrittura with the patronage of the Municipality of Monteprandone.
The official dates (July 7-28, 2026) have already been included in the municipality's summer schedule. Currently, the organizers have not yet released the list of guests and the detailed program for the 17th edition: the names of the authors and the titles to be presented will be announced in the weeks preceding the event on the festival's official channels.
Monteprandone can be reached by car from the A14 motorway, exit San Benedetto del Tronto, and then continue inland for a few kilometers. The nearest train station is San Benedetto del Tronto, on the Adriatic line, which is connected to the village by provincial roads and local services.
The events take place in Piazza San Giacomo and admission is free. Booking may be required for some events: it is advisable to check the festival's official website and social media channels closer to the dates.
The events are held outdoors in the evening: bring a light jacket. It's advisable to arrive a little early to find a seat and take the opportunity for a walk in the historic village.
