The neighborhood and patronal festival at Wojtyla Park in San Benedetto del Tronto
The Festa del Quartiere Sant'Antonio is one of the most cherished events of the summer in San Benedetto. It takes place in the Sant'Antonio neighborhood of San Benedetto del Tronto, in the province of Ascoli Piceno (Marche), between the parish church run by the Friars Minor Conventuals and the nearby Karol Wojtyla Park, along Via Lombardia. It is a festival with a dual soul: on one hand, the religious dimension, linked to the cult of Saint Anthony of Padua, and on the other, the civil and convivial aspect organized by the Neighborhood Committee together with the Antoniana Events Association.
The spiritual heart of the festival is the celebration of the patron saint, set for June 13th, the liturgical feast day of Saint Anthony of Padua. In the preceding days, the community observes the traditional Tredicina, a period of preparation culminating in the solemn procession through the neighborhood streets. In the 2026 edition, the festival takes on a special significance: the historic wooden statue of the Saint, created in the 1940s, has been restored and re-enshrined, while the renewed bell concert once again marks the moments of the festival with the church's five bells.
The civil part of the festival enlivens Karol Wojtyla Park, especially on weekend evenings. The food stalls open from 7:30 PM and offer local culinary specialties, from grilled dishes to traditional Marche peasant and seafood cuisine. The evenings continue with live music and dancing: over the years, local bands and groups have performed on stage for audiences of all ages.
The festival is also designed for families. In the afternoons, there are games, workshops, and entertainment for children, involving local cooperatives and associations. The highly anticipated lottery draw, which concludes the festival on the final evening, is also a highlight.
In addition to devotion and entertainment, the Festa del Quartiere Sant'Antonio has a concrete solidarity value: the proceeds from the evenings are traditionally allocated to the upkeep and enhancement of Wojtyla Park, the green space that serves as the backdrop for the event. This is how a popular festival also becomes an opportunity for participation and growth for the entire neighborhood community.
In 2026, the Festa del Quartiere Sant'Antonio takes on special significance. The historic wooden statue of the Saint, dating back to the 1940s, has been restored and re-enshrined for the start of the traditional Tredicina. The five bells of the church, which underwent maintenance, have also returned to ringing. The feast of the patron saint Saint Anthony of Padua is celebrated on June 13th, with a solemn procession. Alongside the religious program, Karol Wojtyla Park hosts evening food stalls, live music, children's entertainment, and the lottery draw.
