The lighthearted rally for single-speed mopeds through the hills of the Cebano region
La Monferraglia is the lighthearted, non-competitive rally dedicated to single-speed mopeds that has been enlivening the streets of Ceva for years. Located in the province of Cuneo, this town overlooks the Tanaro Valley and serves as a gateway to the Langhe hills of Ceva. It is not a race, but a grand gathering of enthusiasts who share a love for vintage engines and small-scale adventures in nature. As the organizers like to say, La Monferraglia is not just an event, but "a philosophy of life."
Participation is reserved exclusively for single-speed mopeds that are road-legal: the legendary Ciao, Peugeot 103, Garelli, and other historic 50cc bikes that shaped the history of Italian mobility. A rule as curious as it is essential requires every participant to wear a mustache—real or fake—symbolizing the fun-loving and inclusive spirit that defines the event.
The heart of La Monferraglia is the guided tour along a route of approximately 65-70 kilometers that winds through provincial roads and dirt paths. It crosses the hilly territory around Ceva, touching small villages in the Langhe and the Upper Tanaro Valley. Along the way, marked by signage and support staff, there are plenty of refreshment stops that turn this motorized ride into a day of conviviality.
The Ceva editions of La Monferraglia are linked to the memory of Silvio Amerio, the event's creator and first promoter in the city, who passed away recently. Amerio had strongly championed the event, also in memory of his son, Davide. True to its charitable vocation, the organization (Monfalive SSD, a non-profit amateur sports and tourism association) donates the proceeds, net of expenses, to local organizations involved in social work, medical research, and environmental protection.
For one day, Ceva becomes the capital of vintage two-wheelers: the town's squares and streets transform into a lively open-air stage, animated by the roar of mopeds and the joy of the participants. Today, La Monferraglia is one of the most beloved events in the Municipality of Ceva and the entire southern Piedmont region, capable of attracting enthusiasts from all over Italy and strengthening the bond between motor tradition, the local territory, and solidarity.
The 58th spring edition of La Monferraglia, part of the "Monferraglia Classica" calendar, was held in Ceva over the weekend of June 6-7, 2026. On Sunday, 466 participants filled the town's squares and streets with their historic single-speed mopeds, turning the center into a lively open-air stage.
The edition also proved to be an occasion for solidarity: the organizing committee donated equipment to the Ceva volunteer Fire Brigade detachment. Numerous local entities were involved, from the Pro Loco Ceva to the Civil Protection, the White Cross, and the Local Police, with the support of the municipal administration.
Saturday: Welcome for participants. Sunday, June 7: Meeting at the sports field, departure of the guided tour on single-speed mopeds along the route through the Cebano hills, and social moments in the city center.
Ceva can be reached by car via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Ceva exit) and by train via the Ceva railway station on the lines connecting to Turin, Cuneo, and Savona. The meeting point and departure usually take place at the local sports field.
Participation in the rally is reserved for single-speed mopeds that comply with the Highway Code. For information on registration, regulations, and the event calendar, please visit the official website monferraglia.it.
Don't forget your mustache (real or fake), an essential part of the event's lighthearted spirit. Comfortable clothing and well-maintained vehicles are recommended for tackling the route, which includes both paved roads and dirt tracks.
