The traditional Pordenone picnic on April 25th, celebrating the 'fortaja'
In Pordenone, April 25th is not just the feast day of the patron saint, St. Mark: it's also the day of the Fortajada, the ancient city picnic celebrating the fortaja, the typical Pordenone omelette. It's an event rooted in popular tradition, when families would gather outdoors, in meadows and parks, to celebrate spring with a convivial omelette lunch.
Today, the festival, organized by Pro Loco Pordenone APS, maintains that genuine spirit. The day begins in the morning with a non-competitive walk, an open-to-all stroll through the city's streets and parks. This is followed by the grand picnic with the fortaja, accompanied by folk and traditional games, music, inflatable attractions, and free entertainment suitable for all ages.
Blankets spread on the grass, the aroma of omelette, children's laughter, and the air of a finally bursting spring: La Fortajada is one of those simple, authentic festivals that tell the story of a community's identity. A perfect way to experience April 25th in Pordenone, a city that will be the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027.
