The festival of new olive oil and bruschetta in the village of Spello
Among the most beloved festivals of Umbrian autumn, L'Oro di Spello - Festa dell'Olivo e Sagra della Bruschetta celebrates the arrival of the new extra virgin olive oil every November in the village of Spello, in the province of Perugia. It is a historic event, founded in the 1960s, that intertwines peasant tradition, gastronomy, and local culture.
The absolute star is bruschetta, toasted bread seasoned with freshly pressed oil. During the festival days, the historic center fills with stands of typical products, taverns of the terzieri, professional tastings of EVO oil, photographic exhibitions, and shows. There are also walks among the olive groves along the Path of St. Francis and workshops for families such as "Trekking and Fairy Tales Among the Olive Trees".
Among the most characteristic moments, Sunday features the parade of historic agricultural wagons through the historic center and a showcase of Umbrian folk music. Organized by the Municipality of Spello together with the Pro Loco, the festival attracts olive oil enthusiasts and visitors from all over the region, confirming itself as an excellent showcase for Umbrian olive growing.
The 2026 edition of L'Oro di Spello - Festa dell'Olivo e Sagra della Bruschetta will return in November to the historic center of Spello, continuing the long tradition of the new olive oil festival. The program will replicate the proven structure: bruschetta in the piazza, terzieri taverns, market of typical products, professional tastings of extra virgin olive oil, exhibitions, Umbrian folk music, and the parade of historic agricultural wagons.
The precise dates and the complete program will be communicated by the Municipality of Spello and the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
