The queen of MTB marathons in the Dolomites, finishing at the summit of Plan de Corones
The Kronplatz King Marathon is one of the most evocative mountain bike marathon competitions in the Alps. It takes place in the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) area, the iconic mountain of the Puster Valley, and attracts hundreds of athletes from all over Europe every year in search of one of the most iconic endurance challenges. The finish line, located at an altitude of 2,275 meters, offers a Dolomite backdrop that is hard to beat.
The race starts in San Vigilio di Marebbe and unfolds along two tracks. The KING Marathon course measures 64 kilometers with 3,150 meters of elevation gain, while the shorter PRINCE Classic version offers 49 kilometers and approximately 2,250 meters of elevation gain. Both combine long climbs, technical trails, and over 8 kilometers of freeride descents on the Bike Park Plan de Corones trails, creating a mix of physical exertion and adrenaline that makes this race one of a kind.
Organized within the Municipality of Brunico and the Plan de Corones area, in Trentino-South Tyrol, the Kronplatz King Marathon is much more than just a race: it is a mountain bike festival that involves enthusiasts, spectators, and families. The number of participants is limited to ensure quality and safety, and each edition confirms the event's strong international appeal, with athletes coming from Italy, Austria, Germany, and beyond.
The Kronplatz King Marathon is an unmissable event for those who love mountain biking and want to test themselves against the mountains in one of the most beautiful settings in South Tyrol.
The Kronplatz King Marathon 2026 was held on Saturday, July 11, with a date moved forward compared to previous years to encourage the participation of athletes and spectators. The start of the KING Marathon was set for 8:00 AM from San Vigilio di Marebbe, while the PRINCE Classic kicked off at 8:30 AM.
Both tracks took competitors from the valley up to the summit of Plan de Corones at 2,275 meters, through over 8 km of freeride descents and single trail sections in the Bike Park.
New for this edition: the Test Days took place over the weekend of July 11-12, offering the chance to test over 50 Cube bicycles — including e-MTBs — for free directly on the Bike Park trails, thanks to the new collaboration with the Cube Action Team.
San Vigilio di Marebbe and Brunico can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (Bressanone exit) or along the SS49 Puster Valley road. The reference train station is Brunico, on the Puster Valley line.
Participation is limited (maximum 800 athletes) with an entry fee of approximately 95 euros. Registration is available online on the official website kronplatzking.com. The start of the KING Marathon is scheduled for 8:00 AM, and the PRINCE Classic for 8:30 AM.
