The village festival of the Albions hamlet, in the heart of the Isarco Valley
The Kirchtag in Albions, also known as Dorffest Albions, is the annual village festival of the hamlet of Albions, a small mountain village belonging to the municipality of Laion (Lajen), in the province of Bolzano/Bozen, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Nestled at an altitude of about 890 meters on the eastern slope of the Isarco Valley (Eisacktal), at the gateway to the Gardena Valley, Albions has just over three hundred inhabitants and preserves the intimate and genuine atmosphere of South Tyrolean villages.
The festival is organized by the Albions Volunteer Fire Department (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Albions), a corps founded in 1909 and deeply rooted in the life of the village. Like many South Tyrolean Kirchtag festivals, the event originated as a celebration around the church and the patron saint, and has evolved over time into a community appointment, an opportunity to meet, support local associations, and celebrate the village's identity.
The program follows the classic scheme of South Tyrolean village festivals. Saturday evening opens with the party and dance music entertainment. Sunday is the highlight: after Holy Mass, the traditional Frühschoppen (the morning musical aperitif) serves as a prelude to the afternoon concerts, featuring performances by the brass band and folk groups. There is no shortage of South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties, beer, desserts, and stands managed by the volunteers.
Participating in the Kirchtag in Albions means experiencing one of the most authentic expressions of South Tyrolean culture up close: the community festival, where Blasmusik, gastronomy, and a sense of belonging intertwine. A genuine event, far from the major tourist circuits, perfect for discovering the truest side of the Isarco Valley.
The 2026 edition was held on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12 in the hamlet of Albions (municipality of Laion, Isarco Valley). The festival opened on Saturday at 7:00 PM, with dance music entertainment starting at 8:00 PM. On Sunday, after the 10:00 AM Holy Mass, the traditional Frühschoppen enlivened the morning; in the afternoon, the Musikkapelle Kollmann (1:00 PM) and the group Tirolerstolz (4:00 PM) performed. Typical cuisine, beer, and South Tyrolean specialties were provided by the Albions Volunteer Fire Department.
