The international piano festival of the Ledro Valley
Kawai in Ledro is one of the most highly regarded piano concert series in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Every summer, the event transforms the Ledro Valley, in the municipality of Ledro (Province of Trento), into a stage for internationally acclaimed performers and promising young soloists. The heart of the festival is the Cultural Centre of Locca di Concei, a concert hall nestled in the valley's greenery, complemented throughout the season by evocative venues such as the Lake Ampola Biotope, the Nino Pernici Refuge, and the squares of the local villages.
Founded in 2004, Kawai in Ledro has built a program of exceptional artistic quality over the years, distinguishing itself through its focus on young talent and its bond with the prestigious Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, whose winners are frequently hosted by the festival. Over time, prominent pianists such as Ingrid Fliter, Roberto Cominati, Davide Cabassi, Anna Kravtchenko, and Mariangela Vacatello have graced the stage, underscoring the event's international stature.
Alongside major piano recitals, the festival features the "Kawai Liberi" section, offering free-admission events that blend music with the landscape: from dawn concerts on the shores of Lake Ampola to performances by local wind bands and choirs. The collaboration with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento is also invaluable, as they traditionally headline the symphonic concert that concludes the main indoor program.
With its evening concerts, free outdoor events, and a summer campus dedicated to young musicians, Kawai in Ledro has become a fixed highlight of the Trentino summer. The festival unites the excellence of classical music with the beauty of the Ledro Valley's alpine and lakeside landscapes, offering residents and tourists a significant cultural experience in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The 2026 edition of Kawai in Ledro, the twenty-first, takes place from August 4th to September 1st in the Ledro Valley (Municipality of Ledro, Province of Trento). The program confirms the festival's dedication to great piano music, with a schedule that weaves together solo recitals, chamber and vocal ensembles, and free outdoor events.
Announced performers include pianist Olaf John Laneri, the Una Notte all'Opera Ensemble, pianist Alon Goldstein, the duo formed by soprano Yana Klein and pianist Tatiana Larionova, as well as the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento conducted by Hossein Pishkar, featuring young pianist Vifan Wu, winner of the Busoni Competition. The "Kawai Liberi" section offers free-admission events, including a performance by the Valle di Ledro Wind Band Choir and the evocative dawn concert at Lake Ampola.
The main concerts are held at the Cultural Centre of Locca di Concei, at Via di Carpeà 6, in the municipality of Ledro (TN), postal code 38067. Some events take place in other locations throughout the Ledro Valley, such as the Lake Ampola Biotope, the Nino Pernici Refuge, and various village squares.
Indoor concerts require an admission ticket (approximately 12 euros for full price, 6 euros reduced for under-30s and over-65s); the final concert with the orchestra has a higher price. Events in the "Kawai Liberi" section are free of charge. Advance tickets are available online via the Trentino Spettacoli circuit.
The Ledro Valley can be reached by car from Lake Garda (Riva del Garda) by driving up the SS240 road. The Cultural Centre is located in the hamlet of Locca, in the Concei area.
