Author jazz among the stones of Franciacorta
Born in 2004, Jazz on the Road is the travelling festival that every July crosses the Bresciano territory, moving between Lake Garda, Franciacorta, and the historic centre of Brescia. The philosophy is simple and fascinating: to bring jazz out of theatres and into spaces that tell the story of the identity of places. In the municipality of Gussago, in the province of Brescia, the festival finds some of its most beloved settings, with concerts held in places of great historical and scenic value.
The Gussago stop traditionally spans two days. The first day opens with a dawn concert in front of the monumental complex of the Santissima, the former Dominican convent that overlooks the hill: listening to jazz as the sun rises, among the vineyards of Franciacorta, is one of the most evocative experiences of the entire festival. In the evening, the music moves to the steps of the church of Santa Maria Assunta, in the heart of the town, while on the second day the stage moves to the park of Villa Pace.
The programme alternates between names from the Italian and international jazz scene, original projects, and first performances. Most of the events are free entry, a choice that makes Jazz on the Road a popular festival in the noblest sense of the word, capable of introducing jazz even to those who do not usually attend it. The artistic direction carefully balances research and listenability, promoting young talents alongside established musicians.
For Gussago and for the entire Franciacorta region, the festival represents an opportunity for cultural and tourist promotion. The concerts become a pretext to discover often little-known places in the municipality, from the steps of the historic centre to the stately villas, in a constant dialogue between music and heritage. The festival also involves Padenghe sul Garda, Desenzano, and Brescia, creating an itinerary that unites the territories of the province of Brescia.
The 23rd edition of Jazz on the Road takes place from July 10 to 15, 2026, featuring twelve events, eight of which are free, spread across Lake Garda, Franciacorta, and the historic centre of Brescia. After the openings in Padenghe sul Garda (July 10, with Karima) and Desenzano (July 11, with Sergio Cammariere at the Castle), the festival moves to Gussago on July 12 and 13, before concluding in Brescia on July 14 and 15 with tributes to Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
