The festival celebrating the sea and fishing culture in Capo d'Orlando
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Ittica is the Sicilian Seafood Heritage Festival, an event taking place in Capo d'Orlando, a lively seaside town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the Province of Messina, Sicily. Launched in 2023, the festival focuses on the sea, fishing culture, and the maritime identity of a region that has always lived in close connection with the Tyrrhenian. Its stated goal is to enhance and protect Sicily's immense marine heritage, approaching it from a holistic perspective that touches upon economic, cultural, anthropological, social, and environmental dimensions.
Ittica organizes its programming into several thematic sections that showcase its multidisciplinary spirit: Itti Food (street food and local fish tastings), Itti Arte (exhibitions and performances), Itti Music (live concerts), Itti Show (show cooking and entertainment), Itti Doc (documentary screenings about the sea and fishing), and Itti Talk (conferences and debates with experts, writers, and industry professionals). The format combines the pleasure of dining with reflections on sustainable fishing and the rediscovery of so-called "overlooked species"—the humble fish of Sicilian tradition that are often forgotten.
The heart of the event is Piazza Caracciolo, overlooking the Capo d'Orlando seafront, which comes alive during the festival evenings with food stalls, music stages, and installations. Past editions have featured signature show cooking—such as that by Masterchef finalist Antonio Mazzola—concerts, performances, author debates, and screenings of documentary films dedicated to the world of the tuna fishery and Sicilian seafaring.
Alongside the main summer event, the festival has developed the traveling format Le Tappe di Ittica, a widespread gastronomic review involving Capo d'Orlando's restaurants with weekly themed dinners dedicated to local catches and overlooked species. Each venue hosts an evening where local chefs reinterpret Sicilian fish in a dialogue between signature cuisine and maritime tradition, extending the festival's spirit throughout the year.
Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea between the Nebrodi Mountains and the Aeolian Islands, Capo d'Orlando is one of the most well-known tourist destinations on the north coast of Sicily. Its maritime and gastronomic tradition provides a natural backdrop for Ittica, which is part of the municipality's rich summer calendar and helps tell the story of a territory deeply connected to the sea.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Ittica – Sicilian Seafood Heritage Festival in Capo d'Orlando have not yet been announced. The municipality's summer program is currently being updated.
