About Danilo Bontempelli Memorial

In Pellizzano, Val di Sole, the Centro Salto hosts the Trentino stage of the Italian Youth Cup for ski jumping and Nordic combined, held in memory of Danilo Bontempelli. Young athletes from the Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 categories from across the Alps compete on the HS38 and HS20 hills in a two-day event that combines jumping trials with cross-country races for the Nordic combined standings. An event organized by G.S. Monte Giner in the heart of Trentino.

Ski jumping in the heart of Val di Sole

The Danilo Bontempelli Memorial is the Pellizzano stage of the national Italian Youth Cup circuit for ski jumping and Nordic combined. It takes place at the Centro Salto di Pellizzano, located in the municipality of the same name in the province of Trento. This is one of the historic facilities in Trentino-Alto Adige, where ski jumping has been a local tradition for over sixty years. The event is organized by G.S. Monte Giner A.S.D., the club that has been promoting and organizing national and international competitions in Val di Sole since the 1980s.

A competition dedicated to a pioneer of the sport

The event is named after Danilo Bontempelli, president of the Pellizzano Ski Club in the 1970s and a tireless promoter of ski jumping in Val di Sole. The memorial preserves his legacy, transforming it into an event that kicks off the summer season for the young Italian ski jumping movement.

Categories and hills

Young athletes from the youth categories compete on the slopes of the Centro Salto:

  • Under 10 (Pulcini)
  • Under 12 (Giovanissimi)
  • Under 14 (Giovani)

The competitions are held on the facility's two hills: the HS20, dedicated to the youngest, and the HS38 "Val di Sole" for the older categories. The program includes jumping trials followed by cross-country races valid for the Nordic combined rankings, a discipline that merges jumping and cross-country skiing into a single race with a pursuit start (Gundersen).

An Alpine nursery

The Pellizzano stage attracts youth clubs from across the north-eastern Alps. Alongside G.S. Monte Giner, teams from Trentino, Alto Adige, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia participate, such as Sci Club Gardena and Monte Lussari. It is a precious opportunity to follow the future talents of Italian ski jumping and Nordic combined up close, set against the green Alpine backdrop of Val di Sole.

The Centro Salto di Pellizzano

Ski jumping has been deeply rooted in Pellizzano since the post-war period, when the facility featured snow-covered jumps and a federal school. In the 1990s, the installation of a plastic surface allowed for summer competitions, and today the Centro Salto remains one of the few active Italian facilities for young athletes, serving as a key reference point for G.S. Monte Giner and Trentino ski jumping.
