The Italian Olympic Triathlon Championship in Alba Adriatica

Every early September, the coastline of Alba Adriatica, a seaside town in the province of Teramo, hosts one of the most prestigious races in Italian triathlon: the Italian Absolute and Age Group Olympic Triathlon Championship. The event, included in the official calendar of the Italian Triathlon Federation (FITri), awards the coveted national champion jerseys over the Olympic distance and attracts hundreds of athletes from all over Italy to the Abruzzo coast.

The race and distances

The competition is held over the classic Olympic distance, the same as the Games: 1.5 km of swimming in the Adriatic waters, 40 km of cycling along the coast, and 10 km of running on the promenade. The start, finish, and transition area are set up on the Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi, the beating heart of this Teramo tourist destination.

The format features two distinct days: the Elite and Under 23 race in draft legal mode and the Age Group race with no-draft rules, open to enthusiasts divided by age categories. Youth and Junior categories benefit from special registration rates.

An Adriatic Series event

The Alba Adriatica stage is one of the flagship appointments of the Adriatic Series, the multi-discipline circuit of the Adriatic coast organized by Flipper Triathlon, a company chaired by Raffaele Avigliano. The 2026 calendar of the series includes eight stages distributed across the Marche, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, and Puglia regions, with Alba Adriatica hosting the Olympic national title, managed by the company alongside two other Italian Championships.

Sport and territory in Abruzzo

Beyond the competitive challenge, the event is a celebration of sport and the local area: the final pasta party, the cheering along the course, and the late-summer atmosphere by the sea make these two days a deeply felt appointment for the community of Alba Adriatica and the entire Abruzzo Region. Its location, just a few kilometers from the Val Vibrata motorway exit, makes the town easily accessible from all over the peninsula.
