Classic car, motorcycle, and supercar rally in Villanova del Battista
There is a moment in mid-summer when the small village of Villanova del Battista changes its appearance: its streets and central square fill with polished bodywork, chrome, and lines that have spanned decades of automotive history. This is the Irpinia Tour, a classic car and motorcycle rally that has quickly carved out a recognizable spot in the calendar of major motoring events in Campania, attracting collectors, enthusiasts, and curious visitors from across the region and beyond.
The formula is as simple as it is effective: a static exhibition of historic and sports vehicles set up in the heart of the town, where you can stroll freely among vintage sedans and coupes, historic motorcyclesโincluding some Ducatis that tell the story of Italian mechanical evolutionโand the latest supercars parked just a few meters away. The contrast between the lines of the past and those of the present is, in essence, the true narrative of the event.
The day is organized into five thematic spaces, designed to structure the visit and ensure every visitor finds what they are looking for:
The theme chosen by the organizers โ tradition, innovation, passion โ perfectly summarizes the spirit of the event: to value the motoring heritage, look toward today's technologies, and never forget the local cuisine.
The event is promoted by the A Tempo Perso association, which operates in collaboration with some of the most active entities in Southern Italian motoring collecting: the Club Salerno Autostoriche, the Club Veicoli Storici Irpino, the Vesuvius club, and the Mito Delta Club. The event is held under the patronage of the Province of Avellino and the Municipality of Villanova del Battista, confirming a project that is not just a parade of cars but also a tool for local promotion.
As in any self-respecting Irpinian festival, the table plays a far from secondary role. The gastronomic area offers dishes from the local peasant tradition, and those who decide to stay for lunch will find a complete menu that accompanies the day: fresh local pasta, main courses linked to the culture of transhumance, and a glass of Aglianico, the red wine that tells the story of the Irpinian hills better than any other. Preparation is partly done in plain view, with showcooking moments that bring the public closer to the area's typical products.
Villanova del Battista is a small municipality in the Province of Avellino, in Campania, nestled at an altitude of over seven hundred meters between the Ufita Valley and the Daunian Mountains, on the border with Ariano Irpino, Flumeri, and Zungoli. It is a land of ridges, wheat, and wide panoramas, where the winding roads connecting one village to another are themselves part of the attraction for those who love to drive. The ancient Polcarino district retains a compact urban fabric, ideal for a widespread exhibition that can be explored on foot in just a few minutes.
The event appeals to a wide audience: collectors who bring their own vehicles and compete for awards, enthusiasts who come to photograph and discuss, but also families and casual visitors who find a day in the open air, free in the exhibition area, with the chance to discover a village in inland Irpinia that rarely appears on the most beaten tourist itineraries. It is, ultimately, the simplest way to combine the roar of engines with the quiet of the Campanian hills.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM, Villanova del Battista hosted the third edition of the Irpinia Tour, a classic car and motorcycle rally also open to modern supercars. The streets and the town square transformed into an open-air museum dedicated to motoring, with a static exhibition of historic and sports vehicles set up in the town center.
The day's program was divided into five spaces: classic cars, classic motorcycles, supercars, a food & beverage area, and a space dedicated to photos and memories of the event. Among the displayed vehicles were vintage sedans and coupes alongside the latest generation models and historic motorcycles, including some Ducatis.
The awards ceremony was held at 12:00 PM, followed by a parade of vehicles through the town streets. The 2026 edition adopted the theme tradition, innovation, passion, with the goal of valuing motoring heritage, current technologies, and local gastronomy together.
The event was organized by the A Tempo Perso association in collaboration with the Club Salerno Autostoriche, the Club Veicoli Storici Irpino, the Vesuvius club, and the Mito Delta Club, with the patronage of the Province of Avellino and the Municipality of Villanova del Battista.
Villanova del Battista can be reached by car from the A16 Naples-Canosa motorway, taking the Grottaminarda exit and continuing towards the Ufita Valley in the direction of Flumeri, Zungoli, and Ariano Irpino: the village is just a few kilometers from the main junctions in the area. The most convenient railway station is Ariano Irpino, while the nearest airports are Naples-Capodichino and Bari-Palese. Those participating with a historic vehicle will find the climb toward the village a scenic route that is worth the trip in itself.
The exhibition is set up in the town center: the streets and the main square become an open-air museum for a day, with thematic areas distributed a short distance from one another and entirely walkable.
The stroll among the displayed vehicles takes place in the public spaces of the village. The fee applies to those participating with their own vehicle and includes a free gift as well as the chance to compete for prizes. Lunch is separate, with a complete menu that can be booked through the organization.
For registration and information, the organization's contact number is available (Katty, +39 333 8030804).
