March 8th in Montefoscoli and Palaia: theatre workshops, parades, and entertainment
To mark International Women's Day, the Municipality of Palaia, in the province of Pisa, dedicates an entire Sunday to theatre and widespread creativity. The initiative takes place between the village of Montefoscoli and the historic centre of Palaia, two of the most picturesque spots in the Valdera region, offering a programme that combines workshops, parades, and participatory entertainment.
The day is led by the cultural association Teatro di Bò, an entity active for over twenty years in the Pisan territory in theatre training and production, and now also present under the name Pensieri di Bo' Cultura e Teatro APS. Their approach, based on community theatre and live arts, transforms village squares and streets into a natural stage, where residents become protagonists alongside the actors.
The event revolves around three main highlights: a theatre workshop open to the public, a parade through the village streets, and a series of entertainment moments accompanying the audience throughout the day. It is a way to celebrate March 8th not just as a symbolic date, but as an opportunity for meeting, play, and collective creation, where the language of theatre becomes a tool to tell the stories and voices of women.
The initiative is part of a broader cultural project that Teatro di Bò carries out together with the Municipality of Palaia and with the support of the Regional Council of Tuscany, dedicated to promoting art and theatre within the municipal area.
Participating in International Women's Day is also a great opportunity to visit two villages rich in history. Palaia, recognized as one of the most characteristic villages in Tuscany, preserves a medieval historic centre with its terracotta churches and quiet alleys. Montefoscoli, its hamlet, is famous for the Temple of Minerva Medica and the Museum of Peasant Civilization. A day spent between theatre and landscape, in the heart of the Pisan hills.
The 2026 edition of International Women's Day in Palaia took place on Sunday, March 8th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, spread between the village of Montefoscoli and the historic centre of Palaia. The heart of the day was the activity of the cultural association Teatro di Bò, which offered a community theatre experience open to everyone.
The programme intertwined three elements: a participatory theatre workshop, a parade through the village streets, and various entertainment moments to celebrate March 8th as an occasion for meeting and shared creativity. The initiative is part of the cultural project promoted together with the Municipality of Palaia and the Regional Council of Tuscany.
The detailed schedule of individual activities was communicated by the organization closer to the event.
