The grand street food village on the shores of Lake Bolsena
Every spring, the Marta lakeside promenade, a small town in the province of Viterbo overlooking Lake Bolsena in northern Lazio, hosts one of the most anticipated stops of the International Street Food circuit. For a few days, the Porto area fills with colorful food trucks, the aromas of distant cuisines, and outdoor dining tables: it is one of the events that marks the start of the tourist season on the lake shores.
The formula is the proven one of the circuit: a large gastronomic village with dozens of selected food trucks and stands from all over Italy and abroad. This is not a general fair, but a selection curated by the organization, which favors taste artisans and authentic regional cuisines.
International Street Food was born from an idea by Alfredo Orofino, president of A.I.R.S. (Italian Association of Street Restaurateurs, affiliated with Confartigianato), and is now the largest Italian traveling festival dedicated to street food: every edition visits over two hundred cities across the peninsula, from April to November. The Marta stop is held under the patronage of the Municipality and has become a fixture in the Tuscia calendar over the years.
Marta is a fishing village perched on the southern shore of Lake Bolsena, dominated by the Clock Tower and crossed by the river of the same name, the lake's only emissary. The lakeside in the Porto area, with its piers and moored boats, offers a natural setting that makes this stop different from others on the circuit: you eat outdoors, with the water just a few meters away and sunsets lighting up Bisentina Island on the horizon.
Admission is always free and the continuous hours allow you to arrive whenever you like: you only pay for what you consume, with street food prices. The formula appeals to families, young people, and gastronomy enthusiasts, and the large area equipped with tables and seating encourages conviviality. For the Municipality of Marta and the tourism operators of Lake Bolsena, the event also represents an important opportunity for local promotion, capable of attracting visitors from the entire province of Viterbo, Umbria, and southern Tuscany.
It is worth arriving a little early to park without difficulty and combine your gastronomic stop with a walk in the historic center of Marta or a stroll along the lake. Those with more time can spend the day discovering the other villages of Lake Bolsena, from Capodimonte to Montefiascone, and the local wineries where the Est! Est!! Est!!! of Montefiascone is produced.
From April 3 to 6, 2026, the Marta lakeside promenade, in the Porto area, hosted the eleventh stop of the tenth edition of International Street Food, the traveling festival created by Alfredo Orofino and organized by A.I.R.S. under the patronage of the Municipality of Marta.
The scheduling during the long Easter weekend brought a significant flow of visitors to Lake Bolsena from the entire province of Viterbo and neighboring regions. The gastronomic village set up on the lakeside brought together dozens of food trucks and stands with Italian and international specialties: from pulled pork to caciocavallo impiccato, from Apulian bombette to arrosticini, from Neapolitan pizza to Hungarian kurtos, as well as fassona burgers, fried foods, Argentine cuisine, and fish dishes, accompanied by Italian and foreign craft beers and desserts, including gluten-free options.
The inauguration was held on Friday, April 3 at 6:00 PM, with stands open until midnight; on Saturday, April 4, Sunday, April 5 (Easter), and Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday), hours were continuous from 12:00 PM to midnight. Admission was free for the entire duration of the event.
Specialties present: pulled pork, caciocavallo impiccato, Apulian bombette, arrosticini and skewers, Neapolitan pizza, Hungarian kurtos, Piedmontese fassona burgers, traditional fried foods, Argentine grilled cuisine, fish dishes, Italian and international craft beers, Italian and foreign desserts with gluten-free options.
