About Kite Festival

Every spring, the Amerigo Vespucci seafront in Margherita di Savoia, on the coast of the Barletta-Andria-Trani province in Puglia, transforms into a vast open-air theater. The International Kite Festival brings kite flyers from every continent to the beach for ten days of free-flying, acrobatic displays, children's workshops, concerts, and food and wine events. A free, family-friendly event that officially kicks off the summer season on the Apulian coast.

The International Kite Festival in Margherita di Savoia

Every year, between late April and early May, the Amerigo Vespucci seafront in Margherita di Savoia becomes the stage for one of the most colorful and anticipated events in Puglia. The International Kite Festival fills the sky above the beach with shapes, colors, and acrobatic figures, attracting professional kite flyers and enthusiasts from all over Italy and numerous countries around the world. Located in the heart of the Barletta-Andria-Trani province, the town—home to the largest salt pans in Europe—offers an ideal natural setting: a wide, bright, and breezy beach, perfect for kite flying.

Ten days of free-flying and exhibitions

The festival spans about ten days, during which the coastline hosts free-flying sessions, acrobatic displays, and flying competitions in front of the beach clubs. Large monumental kites, artistic creations, and moving figures animate the coast from morning until sunset, offering a continuous, free spectacle for anyone strolling along the promenade. Each edition features a guest country of honor, celebrated with delegations, traditions, and cultural offerings, turning the event into a true bridge between peoples through the art of kite flying.

Activities for children and families

The Kite Festival is designed primarily for families. Each edition offers free workshops for the little ones, where children learn to build and customize their own kites with the help of experts. These activities, coordinated with local schools, take place in the morning and are among the most popular moments of the festival. Alongside the workshops, there is space for entertainment, games, and initiatives dedicated to accessibility and inclusion.

Music, taste, and culture

Beyond kite flying, the program includes concerts, shows, and food and wine appointments that enliven the town center and the main street. Among the most beloved side events are the "Walk, Color & Fly" stroll with colored powders, the "Calici Volanti" (Flying Goblets) food and music trails, and tastings of local products like the local sweet pizza. The event thus becomes an opportunity to discover the identity of Margherita di Savoia and the Apulian coast, amidst salt pans, the sea, and tradition.

An event that opens the Apulian summer

Promoted by the A.S.B.A. - Association of Beach Establishments with the patronage of the Municipality of Margherita di Savoia and the Puglia Region, the International Kite Festival has established itself over the years as one of the hallmark events marking the start of the beautiful season on the coast of the BAT province. An event that combines spectacle, nature, culture, and conviviality, capable of attracting thousands of visitors and showcasing the territory far beyond regional borders.
