About International Dance Week

Born in 1992, the International Dance Week of Spoleto is one of the longest-running and most prestigious international dance competitions in Italy. For five days between April and May, the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti hosts young dancers from all over the world who compete before an international jury, with classical and modern competitions, masterclasses, and the grand Winners' Gala that concludes the event.

A competition with over thirty years of history

The International Dance Competition Spoleto, also known as the International Dance Week, was founded in 1992 and represents one of the most important and established dance competitions in Italy. It takes place every year in Spoleto, in the province of Perugia, transforming the Umbrian city into a meeting point for young dance talents from all over the world for several days.

Competitions, masterclasses, and gala

The program alternates competition rounds in the categories of classical ballet and modern and contemporary dance, masterclasses held by renowned teachers, shows, and street performances, culminating in the Winners' Gala at the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti. The international jury awards prizes and scholarships, including the prestigious Grand Prix.

A breeding ground for talent

Among the dancers who have competed in Spoleto are artists who are now established, such as the principal dancers of Teatro alla Scala Claudio Coviello and Timofej Andrijaลกenko. Organized by the Fondazione Formazione Danza e Spettacolo ETS in collaboration with the Municipality of Spoleto, the competition also commemorates the figure of Alberto Testa, co-founder and historic artistic director of the event.
