Ferentillo, in the province of Terni, is one of the best-known names in sport climbing in Italy, thanks to its cliffs nestled in the Valnerina Valley: Isola, Mummie, Lu Strittu, and Balcone. It is on this stage that Ferentillo Verticale, the international climbing contest that attracts climbers from all over Italy and abroad, takes place.
Two Competitions, Two Souls
The event is divided into two categories. The Marathon Race tests endurance and technical skill: five hours of climbing on the four cliffs in the area. The Street Boulder, on the other hand, brings climbing into the heart of the village, on artificial walls 3-4 metres high, without ropes and with safety mats, in short but intense challenges also open to the public.
A Celebration for the Village
The headquarters is in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, in the village of Precetto. The event, also supported by the Fondazione Carit, combines sport, community, and local area promotion, making Ferentillo and the Valnerina Valley a prime destination for rock climbing enthusiasts. A day of competition is also an opportunity to discover a spectacular corner of Umbria, with its limestone walls, abbeys, and nature.
Ferentillo Verticale — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Ferentillo Verticale will take place in October 2026: the official website carries the announcement "October 2026 - Coming Soon". The two usual competitions are expected: the Marathon Race (five hours on Isola, Mummie, Lu Strittu, and Balcone) and the Street Boulder on the artificial walls in the town centre, with headquarters in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Precetto. The precise dates have not yet been announced.
